Explain shaving products...
Will someone explain some of the shaving products out there for me...
Some I am sure are for shaving but others I am not sure if they are for shaving like talc powder, do you put it on your face after you shave?
I have figured most of it out but would like a general overview of the products out there that are available.
I just tried Clubman Pinaud aftershave the other day from CVS along with Williams shave soap. I am not that old but it does remind me of the barber shops...
Also how do I unsubscribe from the posts going to my email?

I don't do anything following the shave but a splash of aftershave. If you can find Pinuad Bay Rum or any other brand that is a nice A/S.
Look up on the right of the screen and go to your user control panel. There are edit options that you can select to take care of the email thing.Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.

When are you supposed to use the stypic pencil? Before you put on aftershave or after?

Thanked: 335The styptic pencil is used to stop bleeding. If you can wait long enough to splash on your after shave lotion/balm/splash, you may not need to use the pencil after all.

After giving me perhaps my best shave ever, a barber did apply talc to my face. He kind of rubbed it in or "polished" my face with it. It left a very smooth, glass-like finish - excellent. I don't use it at home, but it sure worked well that day.

Seems like after I shave I bleed, splash cold water on and it stops; put on aftershave and the bleeding starts again...

Explain Shaving Products
Hello, PWillis:
When I nick myself, I take a moment to run the styptic pencil under cold water and gently apply it on the nick to stop the bleeding. Then I proceed with my shave.
After the shave comes a warm water rinse, then cold, followed by a touch of witch hazel, balm and finally aftershave lotion.
This routine works for me. Give it a try. In the end, try various methods and see which works best for you.
Regards,
Obie

In the 1920s men regularly used shaving powder. The little silver decanters are part of the DE shaving sets of that decade. I don't know all the reasons for it, but powder is good for stopping bleeding, while aftershave is just good for preventing infection. Powder of about any kind will clot blood instantly. It was a classier way of dealing with nicks than bits of toilet paper, which accomplish the same thing. I don't know if there were styptic pencils in that roaring decade.

I sometimes use baby powder ( I assume there is talc in it, but I don't have any talc per se) after my after shave if my face is oily. It sometimes is because after seeing one of Pastor's videos I started putting a drop or two of preshave oil in my hand with my aftershave if I for some reason had a rough shave. It really helps to cool things down and get rid of that "just shaved" feeling I sometimes get. The baby powder takes away the sheen from the oil. I may be just spinning my wheels doing this, but it seems to work for me.
