    @Slartibartfast

That is a great picture. I am hoping my 22mm Thater will fit nicely in the scuttle. It looks like the SRD scuttle is not overly large, which is great in my opinion. I just hope that it will suit my brush. Thanks for the picture.

Go back to my post and click on the sentence that describes it and you will see which I got. It's the DOUBLE SIZE.

I will let you know how it is. Pictures are worth a thousand words - I agree!

I thought I should post this conversation between myself and Julie Moore, of DirtyBird. You all might think like me - and I'd like to give you a "heads up!" if that IS the case.
This is regarding my request to her for the BIG Scuttle she makes.
    Conversation below:

    Phil,

I’ve got no problem changing your order if you’d like, but I do want to make sure you understand how big the Double Scuttle is. The interior of the lathering section is 5” wide by about 4” deep. The exterior is about 8.5” wide by 4.5” tall. This thing is HUGE and I’ve actually had returns because it’s too big. Check these dimensions out and email me back to confirm, if you would.

    Thanks,

    Hi Julie,

Thanks for insisting I take a closer look! That's excellent customer care, in my opinion! Going the extra mile to make sure we're satisfied is of utmost importance.

That said, I will recind my previous request of the BIG-UN and go with the middle one - the 1.5 scuttle. That's about the size bowl I am using now, so I'd be used to it. In BLUE, of course. Thx!

    Kindest regards....

    Hope this helps.
    Hello Slartibartfast:

Do you use this just as a brush scuttle, or do you make lather in that bowl as well? The dirty bird one look more like a stack. Maybe lynn could chime in as well. I like to face lather and was looking for a good brush scuttle, so this post came out at the right time.

A brush scuttle. It would be very difficult to build a lather in this.

I have not used a dirty bird or moss scuttle, so I cannot comment on them.

I think once the diameter of the inner bowl gets larger than 3.5 inches you can use it for lathering. My only personal concern with the lathering scuttles has been the loss of heat from the size of the bowls. The little bit of water left in the inner bowl as a conductor does help the larger bowls some.

    Lynn,
You mentioned this earlier, but I don't get it. If you have a scuttle full of lather to keep warm, how do you leave water in the inner bowl? Or am I misunderstanding.

A little bit of water will lay at the bottom of the bowl under the lather if you use a big scuttle. When you lay the brush in the scuttle between Passes, that layer of water acts like a conductor and helps keep the brush warm and therefor your next application of suds should be nice and warm.

I like scuttles that hold a lot of water and are not as wide as the lather scuttles. I still use a little layer of water in the bottom of the top bowl and it does the same thing obviously when I lay my brush in there between passes and then re-face lather on the next pass.

    Have fun,

    Lynn

On reporting a sale for some Dirty Bird scuttle of English Pottery, due to small imperfections (Dirty Bird), I went to check the production of the craftsman Julie (Dirty Bird Pottery - Wheel thrown and hand crafted home goods, kitchenware, gardenware, shaving pieces and more...) and I spotted one scuttle specific FL.

    3. Spice gold rim (more yellowish than in photo) on red

I replicated the idea to heat the foam with a scuttle brush while in FL, adapting a flared glass to a beer mug.
Nice (to me ) and certainly functional. Very nice to have the preferred method of mounting ... associated with pleasure of luxury warm foam !
