Awesome! How big is the fire you use? A normal fireplace sized fire, or a smaller more controlled one just for shaving?

And +1 on being excited to see your whole 16th c. kit.

The fire bowl is about 5" in diameter at the largest point, so pretty small really. The bell's diameter is about 9 inches and it is roughly a foot tall.

If you had a cup on top, it would keep your lather warm also.

The warmer received its first field tests last weekend to great success. I need to add a few more air intake holes into the fire bowl as coals did not get enough air flow to heat properly, but wood fire worked wonderfully.

Here are a few pics of me giving a friend a shave on Sunday. The razor is not a proper period piece as of yet and I'm using badger instead of horse for the brush, but that is for the best I think.

I'm glad to see you're using it outdoors. I was a little concerned about the CO risks. Medieval surgeries had open fireplaces and lots of drafts. I wouldn't advise anyone to burn briquettes or coals in a small enclosed bathroom.

    Cheers,

Do you have a picture of the Woodcut you were basing this on? I know a few people who may be interested in making some of those for their events they do.

I actually started a thread a little back with a bunch of woodcuts and such. As I discover more I will of course add them to it
