    Default DIY Shave Box

    Hello Everyone,

For the past month I have been on the hunt for a box that I could use for a work shave box. I fell in love with the Thiers Historic Straight Razor Shaving Box. However the price is a little steep for me. I have been using a very small box that only held a bowl and brush. I final came across a Bamboo Tea box at a local thrift store. This one had removable dividers. I used the lid from my old box to flip out as a shelf to set things on while I shave. The other side will hole my razor. The back slot is for a paddle strop which is in the mix for tomorrow. I am working on a paddle strop that has a handle that will slide in to the strop body. I hope this will give me a few extra inches on the leather to work with. So with that said, here are some progression pictures on my new “work” shave box. Please keep in mind it’s a work in progress. I need to add a mirror and few other things. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and even better total cost was about $20.00 and 4 hours of work.

    Looking forward to your ideas,

Very cool looking box! I've thought about getting one myself, but realized it was mainly because it is cool, in reality I would never use it.

I'd consider adding a (square?) flipdown leg for the free hanging shelf, it would give better support and lessen the chance it will break. Not knowing what kind of wood you got there ofc, but even with just small stuff on that shelf the strain on the hinges might be an issue.

    Nice work, thanks for sharing

I love it when people use items for purposes other than the original intent.

    Well done!

Thanks, I have since lined the foam with black silk and bend a shiny sheet of aluminum in the center box for a nice brush holder. I'm still looking for neat looking mirror to put on the lid. Also was thinking of back lighting it with LED's. I am currently using it at work and I LOVE it. I can pull it out of my Locker and into the bathroom after PT and I have all the items I need. I just leave the box open during the day to let the brush dry. I think I may make anther from scratch and try my hand at gold leafing.

very nice looking. I will be getting a new Dovo at Christmas, and will be making a similar box to keep at the station in my locker. Great idea shaving after PT.

Nice to meet a fellow brother. Yes it's very handy for station life. If you make one post the pics. I would love to see some other ideas.

Very nice. The TI box is definitely NOT worth the value. While it looks good, it has very cheap hardware (hinges, etc.) that I am sure I'll have to replace at some point.
