Default Georgetown GV or a Dirty Bird Scuttle?

Which one should I get? I'm leaning towards the Georgetown G5. Sell me on either one.

I had the g5,it holds less than 8oz of hot water, not good. You can order a dirydird that will hold over 24 oz of hot water and has a bigger bowl,to whip up lather.I would call dirtybird and i think they will make it for you.

I don't have either, but I am having a scuttle made for me by a local potter. I really liked the look of the geogetown G5, so that is the template that she is using but its bigger and hopefully have a brush holder. Doing it this way you can save on those shipping charges which is a bit much for international buyers.

    Thumbs up

I don't have experience with GS, but Julie at DB just custom made a double scuttle (HUGE). This thing is an animal and I can pot a plant in it. It look marvelous and I love how much room it has for lather . I LOVE it. It holds a lot of water too. This size is not for hand holding. Most people get the 1.5 size. I can tell you that she does a fantastic job and her scuttles are top notch quality craftsmanship. Highly recommended

GS is great! I have one and it does what I need...Now the bad part...The container has a small mouth and makes it hard to mix the lather with a small brush without clanging onthe sides..So great scuttle, just needs a wider mouth.

Default Georgetown GV or a Dirty Bird Scuttle?

    Gentlemen:

I must concur with my friend Robert on the Dirty Bird scuttle. I have the 1.5 and love it. There is plenty of room to lather, and it stays warm throughout the shave. I have had the Georgetown, the 1.3 or 1.4, I don't know their numbering system, and although it was quite pretty, I don't feel it did the job for me. I passed it on. So, yes, Dirty Bird gets my vote.

    Regards,

    Obie

I have the Georgetown G5. If you want hot lather forget it unless you just need it for a quick DE shave. It holds too little water and the walls are too thick. You might also consider the Oskar. I have one and it's just what the Doctor ordered.

I just got my Georgetown G5 yesterday and shaved with it this morning. First, the scuttle is much bigger than the pictures convey(look at the scale of the SR), it swallowed my Wool Fat puck and I got the best lather yet(compared to using a coffee mug). I don't know what the water capacity is but it kept the scuttle hot through out my shave. BTW nessmuck, are you sure the DB holds 24oz...a bottle of wine holds 27 ounces...are you saying that the DB holds close to a bottles worth of water? I admittedly have no reference point for other scuttles but I have to say the workmanship is outstanding and I personally like the symmetry of it's cast/molded body. The glaze is gorgeous to my taste.

I have an older model of the Georgetown Pottery scuttle. It keeps my lather warm long enough for me to shave in the a.m. I liked it so much that I got one for my son about two years ago.

I have heard, however, that the Dirty Bird scuttle is a superior scuttle in terms of keeping lather warm longer.

I made a mistake,it holds 28 0z. You could empty you whole bottle of wine in it. See the above from Zib, it was a special order. I do agree that the craftmanship and glaze on the g5 is second to none,Shave on !!!
