I agree that the G5 doesn't hold heat very well, but it's not too big a problem. I'll pop the plug, drain and give 'er a refill of hot water a couple of times. Takes but 10 seconds and it'll keep the lather fresh for a slow hour long weekend shave...

Here ya go, I was hoping I still had this pic. You have, from left to right, the Georgetown G5, DB 1.5, and the DB Custom Double. I love the double, it's great, holds 4 cups of hot water, and actually keeps your lather warm. Also, for some reason, it's much easier to build lather in a larger scuttle...Creams that were so so for me, now lather up better....Big +1 for DB's Double...
It's kinda dramatic when you see the G5 next to the Double, I can't imagine how I built lather in it, My Rooney barely fits in it...
The only plus I have for the GTP G5 is the cork; However, it doesn't seem to matter, because it really doesn't keep lather warm, As previously stated, it's walls are too thin....Last edited by zib; 02-21-2011 at 06:48 PM.

Dang you Rich. Looks like I need to order a double now. I am really disappointed in the two that I currently have and that is a beaut.

I just got my Georgetown G5 yesterday and shaved with it this morning. First, the scuttle is much bigger than the pictures convey(look at the scale of the SR), it swallowed my Wool Fat puck and I got the best lather yet(compared to using a coffee mug). I don't know what the water capacity is but it kept the scuttle hot through out my shave. BTW nessmuck, are you sure the DB holds 24oz...a bottle of wine holds 27 ounces...are you saying that the DB holds close to a bottles worth of water? I admittedly have no reference point for other scuttles but I have to say the workmanship is outstanding and I personally like the symmetry of it's cast/molded body. The glaze is gorgeous to my taste.Last edited by WineGuyD; 03-11-2011 at 12:22 AM.

I have an older model of the Georgetown Pottery scuttle. It keeps my lather warm long enough for me to shave in the a.m. I liked it so much that I got one for my son about two years ago.
I have heard, however, that the Dirty Bird scuttle is a superior scuttle in terms of keeping lather warm longer."Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." Mark Twain

Tha is the same one I bought. I think it holds enough water..I fill it with hot water and it holds the heat fine. The well and ribbed bowl is good for mixing....The cork is a nice add on because without it I would slop water while mixing..The only issue I have with it is the smaller mouth...I don't care for the clanging on the sides while I mix..The DB is nice, but I don't know if I would want something that big on my sink? There is a point of too much..

1 cup = 8 oz and zibs scuttle holds 4 cups, so 4x8 = 32oz. Now i think my math is right. So you can dump a quart of milk in that scuttle!!!!!!!!!!!!!
