Thanked: 1185Yeah that. I have my day one huge ceramic soup mug and recently bought a small metal bowl. The metal bowl is OK but seems quite a bit more bouyant than the ceramic mug. The mug seems to sink to the bottom of the sink even with water over half way up the outside of the mug. The bowl, in contrast seems to float in even a little bit of water. Nowhere near as stable as the mug.
The older I get, the better I was

Wooden bowl
I was in Muji (Japanese general stores in England) yesterday and bought an inexpensive wooden bowl that seams perfect for shaving. Although it doesn't retain heat it doesn't make the lather cold either. Seams pretty good so far...

Speaking of alternate shave bowls, I often use a Japanese rice bowl. Perfect in size (for me) and cost me about fifty cents at my local Asian market.

Thanked: 0Salsa time!
I use a salsa bowl from Walmart/Target for about a buck. Nice textured surface for working up my uberlather. No heat conduction or retention tho.

This has worked extremely well for me (also a doublewalled metal bowl with a homemade hole in it):

Nice scuttle. Its like you designed the XL for yourself before getting the XL? Minus the handle of course!

If you're set on metal, you may want to check out the StainlessLux "Stainless Steel Condiment Bowl / Dip Bowl" on Amazon. I've got this bowl's little brother - the ice cream bowl - and if I were making the decision again, I'd go with the bigger one. The ice cream bowl works great, but I'd prefer if it were just a tiny bit bigger. The points both bowls have in their favor: lather-friendly satin interior, non-flimsy steel, and a rubber gasket/foot thing that doubles as a nice grippable handle. They also don't leap out of your medicine cabinet and shatter, unlike the terracotta ramekins I was using.
