    Default Shaving Mirrors

I've conluded that I need one. Problem being, just like most things in our society, the quality and build of the mirrors out there is sub-standard at best. I find it hard to believe that no one makes a product that will last you your life anymore, its sad. So I'm turning to the forum in hopes of some knowledge and/or advice.

So, where does one get a well made mirror these days? Every store I've been to sells the same basic junk. I want something that feels like it could survive an atomic blast. Something that can take abuse and everyday use (that rhymed). Something wall mounted. Sigh... what happend to quality...

Anyways thanks so much for taking the time to read this

I see mirrors such as these regularly in the local antique shops Antique Bath Mirrors Selling in the 30-50.00 range.

complete sets similar to this can be had for 20.00 or so as well. I know it is not wall mounted but may be adapted

Thats an interesting find there. How would you adapt such a thing? Perhaps this will open my options up

I guess it all depends on what your after. I am going back to pick up one similar to the picture and plan on mounting on a corner shelf to elevate it up. Or I was considering using as is in the man cave (AKA Garage).

I have been thinking lately that most men did not shave in the bathroom way back when. So I was thinking of moving my daily shave to the garage or my office using some vintage furnishings similar to this

My wife is a tad anal about my shaving stuff being in the bathroom. Boggles the mind actually considering half the counter is covered with hair and body baskets but when I leave my brush stand and a brush out to dry it is the apocolypse.

Thats because your brush and stand don't match the paint! Shame on you for wanting a shave LOL

I guess what I'm looking for is a high quality mirror, with a classic design, and extending arm that is strong and able to go about an arms length out from the wall. I sense I'm going to have to build it... which I was trying to avoid. I have more projects than I know what to do with right now.

On a side note, I like your idea of shaving some place different. I might try the balcony, get a little stand and a wash basen. And shave with cold water all year round. Could be interesting. I'll have to look into that too... LOL

    So little time.

Straight shaving predates the bathroom being inside the home or existing period, I assume shaving at the home was done in the bedroom, along with some of the other main bathroom tasks. I agree that shaving outside. A piece that that would make an excellent excuse for moving the morning shave outside of the bathroom and think of the excellent look you could get under your chin with that mirror tilted back.

Interesting and makes sense. I do wanna try shaving outside, should be fun. Until then, back on topic. Does anyone know of any modern manufacturer that makes a quality product? I found on antique one that is great except the price is 1500$!! Lol

    Check this out:

*Edit*: re-read your post, this isn't what you're looking for on the quality front.

IKEA Extendable / Telescopic Cosmetic Wall Mirror, Shaving / Make Up Mirror (Water Resistant): Amazon.co.uk: Kitchen & Home

I have one I found in a thrift store, slightly damaged so that the extension binds up sometimes. I wouldn't trust it in an atomic blast but I'd trust it to shave. It's got a magnifying side and a regular side. There's a sheet of cardboard between the two plates as a cushion, though.

    Its from ikea...

The mirrors are difficult to find in quality. I received one as a gift last Christmas, I believe it was purchased from bed bath and beyond.
