Advice needed assembling a display cabinet
What do people usually use as backs for their razor display cabinets (namely, ones similar in size & style to this Thiers-Issard, like this one or this one)? Is this a sheet of plywood, birch wood, or maybe just a solid piece of wood?
One more newbie question. I'd like to make a cabinet with miter joints on the front door. Do you typically use a table saw for jobs like this, or, should I opt for a band saw or even a guided circular saw (or a combination thereof)? Thank you for any help.

Thanked: 4249The backs are usually 1/4 inch plywood more then likely birch.
Miter joints on a table saw or if you have a miter saw even better.

Thanked: 22Usually, the back of most cabinets serves the function of keeping things square and rigid. You need surprisingly thin material to do this.
I would not trust a bandsaw to do miters as the blade flexes too much. A guided circular saw is better, but stil not exactly right for the job. If you have, or can get access to a compound miter saw, its the best tool. Failing that a table saw will do the job, just take your time setting it up and make a couple of practice cuts on scrap to make sure you have a nice, tight fit.

You could always just get a good old miter box and handsaw for a lot less money than any of the power tools used for making miters.

Thanked: 2027I use temper board as backing,to that with spray adhiesive you can attach, fabric, formica, naugahyde, almost anything to have a finished look.
Mitererd corners are nice but not really needed, cut them sq.tack it together, once you attach the backing brd it will be tottaly ridged.
another option is to go to a craft store such as michaels, they have ready made picture frames on the cheap, most of the time for less than you can make them, have fun.
