Thanked: 3Straight Razor Shaving Box
Hey guys,
I went to look on ebay today and stupidly forgot to save a picture or link but there was a straight razor travel box. It worked by having what appeared to be a mirror hinged to the top of the box, when the box was opened mirror would fold out and form a triangle connected to the back of the box and the front lip in the bottom of the box were two or three slots for razors that could be laid out open, a spot for a bowl, and what appeared to be a small rectangle for a brush in that rectangle there were two slight U shaped spots so the brush didn't lay flat on its bristles. I don't know if I have just pointlessly rambled or if I have made any sense but it looked really cool and I was wondering if it's possibly to find them. It is possible I got some details wrong since I am working primarily from memory. Any help is appreciated and if you can translate my rambling it's appreciated.
Thank you,
MGNero

Thanked: 0I was looking searching for 'shaving box mirror' today and came across your post.
I'm getting ready to restore a similar item (but not portable) that my great-great grandfather made over 150 years ago. It's been passed down over the generations and finally came to me. Let us know what interesting things you find out about these boxes.
Here's some of the stuff I found while searching.

Lots more with the search phrase 'shaving box mirror'. You can add chest to the phrase but you'll get a lot of 'hairy chest shaving' returns.
regards,

This is one I made from a cigar box my friend had lying around. I used 1/8 plywood from a hobby shop for the dividers, but I think the next one I make will be something better since I didn't like how the plywood turned out. I still have to put a mirror in it yet and a support hinge. Was going to put a tube of proraso into it also since there is room. The box is pretty scuffed up, but worked out well for what I was intending.

I got the idea when I saw the one from Thiers. I remember seeing one exactly like the second link here somewhere that someone made. Turned out really nice. I like the idea of the fold out mirror.

Thanked: 0Score !
You might want to put a locking latch on it to make sure it doesn't open while you travel.
I picked up a traveling salesman's razor case with no latch or lock.
I ended up putting an old violin case lock on it and it looks somewhat correct/natural. Found some keys at the flea market and filed them down to fit the lock.
congrats!
