Thanked: 993Hone Boxes....old school.
So, I'd been thinking about doing some boxes for my hones that were boxless. I contacted a member here, and he had a really nice piece of honey locust for me (1 piece, about 30 pounds).
The impetus was hone boxes, but also to try my hand at a couple tools that I've wanted to become more comfortable with.
1) doing precise cuts on a table saw 2) making jigs for a router.
The boxes all started out as rough stock, and were sized to fit each stone. Then each piece was cut in half and routed/chiseled. I wanted to keep the grain matched on each box. The two darkest boxes are from some solid mahogany that my FIL had in his shop, and the medium and light coloured boxes are from the honey locust that Mike sent me.
This was an awesome project.
Enjoy.
