Thread: Shaving Stand

Thier both amazing!! Beautiful antique's!! I still use my ol' stand by, the sink in the Lu, works great but not nearly as elagant!![lot's of !! there, ain't there!][sorry]

I often see such stands at Flea Markets and in Antique stores but both pictures are wonderful specimens! I must admit an antique shaving stand is on my "One of these days for my man cave" list. In fact, a man cave is on the same list

Well Hellrazor308,

the bowl was concepted for washing the face and is well before time of indoors plumbing.
If you look on right side of the marble, you can see a red gum ring that I use to clean the razor during shaving, and when I've finish to shave I clean the razor with alcool for degrease the blade from soap and fat, in this way I keep my razor free from rust and I've not to wait long time before to dry oneself.

Oh my gosh! I think I bid on that very one! That said, I never did get it and had since forgotten about it! Until now lol.

Lazy summer days indeed - it was my intention to place it in my screened in patio so I could shave outside and watch the world go by...

To Bushdoctor. Red Gum Ring?? Confused on how you would used this to clean a razor? Would you please enlighten.

Oh yes, is really easy to do, I scrape the razor on gum scraping ring to clean it from lather. I add some pics and hope you can understand like function.

Love the stand (and Carl, I like yours too! You should definitely buy it!) and this gum ring is completely new to me. Was it originally intended as a shaving accessory? Looks a lot like a diaphragm, but why a diaphragm would come with a nice cut-glass holder eludes me.

Yes, it was intended as a shaving gear, in the past are relative common between barbers, I've see also some modern copy but they are plastic made and sincerely don't have appeal like the olds one.
Yes seems like a diaphragm.

I almost never rinse my razors, I try to keep them as dry as possible; like you. I think people would use this sort of setup a lot years ago, esp where one let a room in a boarding house, I imagine, for just general washing too. But I'd use the bowl just like I use the bathroom sink; to soak and warm the bowl and brush and wet the wash cloth in at the end to wash the lather off my face...
