    Default Another inexpensive, homemade scuttle

I was browsing the secondhand store recently, where I often come across small stainless steel bowls among the cooking implements. I found one that nests perfectly in my large glass bowl. I warm up both bowls by filling them with piping hot water during my shower. Empty both, and then put a new cup of hot water in the glass bowl; build lather in the stainless bowl and then set it in the glass bowl, where the water keeps the lather pleasantly warm. Total cost for both bowls was under $7.00.

    Cheers!

That's a great and easy idea. I was thinking about buying a scuttle myself but, I didn't want to spend that much for one. Now I don't have to!! Thanks for the idea!!

Heres another Cheap and easy scuttle you can make.
Double wall SS bowl (asian market) 2 bux. with a dremal grind a hole thru the outer side, epoxy in a copper elbow,on the oppisit inner side make a small weep hole.Fill with hot water, you can tip the bowl to add more water to the lather mix as needed from the weep hole, keeps lather toasty hot for quite awhile.

    Default Scuttled

I bought a scuttle yesterday and it came with a faux silvertip brush and neither had been used. I have almost quit crying. Upon returning home I started looking for an appropiate soap to complement my find. Castle Forbes, TOBS or TH? Then...
Swiss Miss, SWMBO: What is that skittle thingy you bought?
    Me: Uh, a scuttle....scu
Swiss Miss, SWMBO: What does it say on the bottom?
    Me: Burleigh, Ironstone, Staffordshire, 7-81
Swiss Miss, SWMBO:Oh, typing furiously on her keyboard
Swiss Miss, SWMBO: Dear, people are asking 10 to 15 times what you paid.
Me: Great! I got a really good deal and a new brush to play with.
Swiss Miss, SWMBO: Hand it to me.
    POOF
It is now gone. It resides in a large wood and glass enclosure housing other items the Swiss Miss, SWMBO has deemed unusable. This box also guards the china and stemware we got when we married 39 years ago. They have been used 3 times.
I am glad I did not order any expensive soap.

Anyone else picturing surreptitious late-night shaves by rolodave as Swiss Miss slumbers?

I did that for quite some time myself!! Works great! Got a scuttle now though, and I doubt I'll ever go back.

That said, I have a small stainless steel bowl that fits perfectly on top of your average mug. It's not the best size ever, but when traveling, it's the perfect solution! Clay scuttles don't travel well.
