    Default Hammam Shaving Scuttle

Recently been in Constantinople and bought a “pestemal” (hammam towel) and a “tas” (hammam bowl).

This metal bowl, made by copper, is used for cleaning purposes into the Turkish baths, the hammam. This pestemal is a hand-made, 100% linen towel, used into the hammam as well.

The bowl is etched and has a small knoll in the middle. Both features help to create rich lather within seconds. It is 20cm wide and 5cm high. Since it is a wide bowl, the lather created is being collected around and it is not rising up as often occurs with smaller bowls.

If you work it with a big brush it will produce huge quantities of lather.
I used the professional Turkish horse brush bought by bestshave.net.

I also use this pestemal towel while shaving, it is very comfortable for the bath.

Maybe not for everyday use, but a good alternative when you need huge quantities of lather.

PS: easy to guess what soap I used

Thats a beautiful piece. Just to correct though..its a scuttle if it holds water beneath the bowl to create warmth...so what you have there would be a beautiful shaving bowl

Love souvenirs that are practical and beautiful. Yours fits both categories very well.
