The goatee saver is the equivalent of a mach 3. Back in my day we made do with masking tape or, for tougher beards, gaffa tape. Check out the beard taping forum at www.beardtapingplace.com for a friendly group of old-school beard tapers, reviving the old art of yesteryear.

James, so the process here is that we tape the bit we want to get rid off right...... Because I tried this just now assuming that I needed to tape the bit I wanted to keep, shaved around it..everything goind well at this point...then removed the tape. The gaffa tape removed the goatee completely in one tearing, eye watering motion, could you please make sure you explain the taping better for anyone else who is going to try this.

Ouch! Stu, sorry but I laughed when I read that part.

Seriously though. I would need some kind of help for a goatee. I've never been able to make a clean line anywhere on my beard!

To me this just seems like a way to cop out. With as much as I play with the shape of my beard, I think men should just be confident and learn the contours of their face.

    Newbs...

You have to make sure you don't use the Pakistani tapes - there's a list of tapes to stay away from on the beardtapingplace Wiki....

I imagine that it would be pretty useless for us who stretch the skin when we shave, you might be able to use it for lathering but that just seems pointless

If you need to do facial stretching around the taped area, just use strapping tape. It has much better adhesion, and also gives you a nice extra crisp line around the goatee
