Thank you Neil for the clarification and thank you Calle for bringing it up, some new knowledge is always nice!
Calle, if it got space for some hygroscopic thingy in the bottom, try it as such and let us know how it works, sure looks nicer than how I keep mine, hehe.

Thanked: 1I found some simular items on ebay thats also listed as razor boxes:
Staffordshire Pearlware Razor Box Geneva 1830 | eBay
Antique White Ironstone Razor Box "Forget Me not" H Alcock Staffordshire | eBay
Antique Pair Old Paris Porcelain Razor Dresser Box Chamber Vanity Set French | eBay

Do you think its a item commonly used for straight razors even if it was made for toothbrushes or are some of them made for razors and some for toothbrushes? I have seen some of them with airholes now when i have been googeling themLast edited by Calle; 01-18-2013 at 08:29 PM.

Thanked: 3164No. I think its a combination of 'it looks like it would be good to fit a razor' and 'what can I sell that is straight razor related even though it isn't." People are trying to attach the term 'straight razor' to almost anything these days, as it makes them attract a better price. As there aren't many people who know what is and what isn't related to straight razors, there aren't too many contradictions. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find someone selling their old granny on ebay or tradera, providing she held her hand up ready to take a razor and a finger out on the other to hang a strop on - 'genuine antique strop and razor holder, one careful owner' - there would be bids, too!
Regards,
Neil

I read this post a few days ago and have been thinking a lot about this. I live in NYC, so summers are particularly humid and living in a Pre-war building my apartment gets incredibly dry in the winters. I use a humidifier consistently in the winter to be more comfortable, so leaving, my razor out to dry has always been a hit or miss situation. I have devised a method to I hope to dry out my razors before going into my Alembic cases.
I have acquired a cedar box, approximately 8x5x2, that has rubber seals along the lid, attached three small platforms for the razor to rest on,filled the bottom with uncooked rice (I have ordered some loose silica gel) and place my razor onto the platforms after my shave. I then cover only the blade with the rice. This seems to be working very well so far. The only downside that I can see is for my horn scaled razors. My thoughts are that I could lightly coat the horn scales with mineral oil after they come out of the rice and then store them.
Has anyone had any experience with anything like this? Any downsides that you can think of?
