Thanked: 0The Art of Shave kit?
Beginner here,
I have my first 'shave ready' razor in the form of an ebony scaled DOVO on the way and Im stoked to hone my skills. I bought a small starter kit by The Art of Shave including pre-shave, shave cream, balm, and a small badger brush. Im wondering from those of you out there who have used this brand if its good stuff and what to expect.
Side note: Anybody use regular shaving cream from a can?

Thanked: 177AOS makes good products. I have used their pre shave oil, pre shave, brushes cream, toner and as balms. Canned cream I haven't used in many years. Most people feel theyre a bit expensive.

AOS shave cream is some of the best, IMO.
The little badger brush is a great travel brush.
I used canned shaving cream in a former life.

Thanked: 3I really like AOS products. When I started with a straight I too started with that kit and like it so much that I used the coupon that comes with it to buy a full sized kit. I think it is a great product. but that being said I am new and it is the only cream I have tried. The only reason I got the bigger cream is for some nice Uber. I am more akin to soaps and have a bad case of SAD. I also have a puck of AOS lavender soap. It produces a good lather and I like the subtle fragrance. Expect to only use about a almond size bit for a total 3 pass shave. All in all, one of their products will continue in my rotation for quite some time. I have never used a canned shaving product. My old man always uses a bowl and soap, so that is how I learned.

Thanked: 33Im new, and I remember the canned stuff I used back in 20ought 12...
I love the AoS stuff. Cream and soap lather up like nobody's business. I use the lavender stuff as well as lemon (based of course on scents the wife likes....I enjoy them very much as well). They are super pricey compared to Poraso stuff and others, which is super easy to use as well. I hang out on the Bay and wait...I have been able to grab full size kits for 50-60 bucks. My starter kit I first used lasted about 5 weeks...so I'm sure with all the stuff I have now may last years, especially since I am mixing in other soaps and AS products. I recently grabbed a bottle of their AS gel, which is also a nice AS product I feel will be well suited for when the heat and humid kick in.
Just a side note....I have seen many who have said scented products have caused some skin irritation. Just in case you are prone to reacting to such products

AOS started out with the owners wife concocting a line of men's grooming products using natural products. They have had top notch products. Of course now they are just another corporate brand so who knows.

Thanked: 3Since I graduated from canned good I have been using AOS products and am very happy with the performance. If you have the starter kit with the small brush a larger brush will feel like luxury.

GasCan,
The Art of Shaving products are quality. The starter kit, with daily shaves, will probably last you about a week or so. The brush that comes in the set is a throwaway, really, a flimsy little thing meant to give you a feel of what brush lathering is all about. When you finish the kit, it will be time to get yourself a good brush and shave away.

Thanked: 3I have used a few of the AOS products as well, they are nice but I tend to find them a bit pricey. The shaving cream from a can works, but as you start exploring the items available to you I think you'll find there are a lot of more comfortable options available.
