Show us your Travel Kit
I need to put a travel kit together and would love to see what you use and what's included. Everything from the bag or wrap, brush, razor, strop etc .... Where did you get them? What have you found through experience works best and covers most needs in the smallest package? What did you used to take with you but now find unnecessary? Do you dedicate specific items as travel tools only? Pics & links would be very helpful. I'm a blank slate in need of direction.

Well, it depends if I'm traveling by air, car or boat.
If I'm traveling light, like I have to for scuba trips etc.
For light travel:
A travel DE and brush. Proraso soap.
For a more comfortable trip, usually by car:
One of my razors and travel brush. A Böker paddle. Proraso soap.

That's what I took away last week. For a short trip I dispensed with aftershave (although I did take a block of alum, which I forgot to put in the photo).
The strop came with a cheap razor-shaped object I got from Amazon, and isn't bad - it's small, so good for travel anyway.
The razor case is made for toothbrushes as a camping/travel case (from ebay), and it fits my razors up to 6/8. Not sure, but I think it might be too narrow for 7/8+.
The soap is a stick of Arko, which lathers well in hard or soft water.

Complete air only carry-on kit
Natural bristle tooth brush with some black monkey tooth powder. Aveda grooming clay for hair, homemade tea tree shave stick, Simpsons Wee Scot, Ralph Lauren trac 2 style razor with Wilkinson carts, q tips, RazRock aftershave wax, nose trimmer (cuz you can't look wooly), deodorant of choice, a bar of dr Bronners peppermint soap for shower/shampoo.
If a longer trip I'll replace the trac2 with a straight or DE.
I fly roughly 130k miles a year and found this works best. The only true liquid type in the bag is the cream/waxy RazoRock and I've never had to pull that out for tsa.Last edited by ZeroCool; 05-30-2013 at 05:13 PM.

Forgot to note. I use these items for travel only, though I do rotate shave sticks depending on my current taste
Picked everything up from the usual interweb purveyors.
I could certainly lose the bar soap and use the hotel stuff but I'm a creature of habit and like consistency.
The alum block will likely go as well since I've been using the RazoRock aftershave wax, kinda redundant.

Great start guys thanks. I'm getting some good ideas. Hope more will post up their travel kits.
Otto I noticed you have one of the Edwin Jagger travel brushes. I have one as well but have been looking for something a little bigger with the same kind of protective tubing. Has anyone come across a larger version? Also are you happy with the Boker paddle strop? What size is it?
Matt69 the toothbrush holder is a great idea. I like the idea of having a harder case than leather. Also I didn't know Arko stick even existed. Looks like a good idea.
ZeroCool that's a great kit. Lot's of interesting stuff. A couple of questions. What do you have your homemade shave stick in? It looks like some kind of twist tube with a top. Also the aftershave wax. What's the idea of this product? I went to their web page but it's memorable only by the lack of product descriptions. What's in it and do you use it only in dabs?

Brenngunn, I picked up a bunch of the twist up tubes from MammaBears soaps when I was placing an order. They sell empty ones pretty cheap, at least they did back when I ordered.
The RazoRock aftershave wax is kinda a citrus smelling not quite balm but not quite wax. It's got the consistency of hair pomade and a little goes a long way. I usually dab the tip of my finger in and then make a dot on each jaw, then massage it in till its gone. It also does a pretty good job of soothing the skin.
I'll order it again when I run out (likely 6-8 months from now).

I can't remember to have seen a larger version of the travel brush. But then again, I haven't looked, I want it small and light.
The Böker paddle strop is OK. The slate side reminds me of the PHIG in grit. I really like it when I have a limited space for my stropping e.g. in the head on a boat.
From the Böker website: "Dimensions (leather strop/slate): 1 5/8" x 15¾" x 1¼". Total length: 12½"."
Then again if space isn't an issue, and I know I have a suitable spot to "anchor" the strop, I might substitute it for
my Swaty and travel strop, and bring my 2 razor Wacker set.Last edited by Otto; 06-02-2013 at 02:45 PM. Reason: added picture

I don't have a pic of my travel kit but I'll take one soon.
Most of the items in the kit were bought while I was on vacation for their size and simplicity.
I have a small Simpsons brush that fits in a DR Harris travel tube.
As well as a lavender Harris shave stick.
I keep a kangaroo travel strop that rolls into a small container. Made by our own legion. I've had it for years now and it's been amazing.
I have a small coticule bout for any touch ups.
And I just choose from whatever razor I feel like before I leave.
All of this goes in a simple leather bag I bought while on my honeymoon in Paris.
