The bottom line
So I've been considering jumping in with both feet on this wet/traditional/straight razor shaving thing. I started to just get my feet wet and go with the replaceable blades on a straight platform...that's not exactly how I roll. I love the craftsmanship of the straight razor, the time and patience it takes to learn how to get a superior shave, the skill it takes to maintain that blade for a lifetime. So I've been reading all of your posts especially those that explain the craft. I've gone to some of the sites y'all suggested and come up about how much its gonna cost for what I have put together. And quite frankly I can't wait to come back here and tell you about my first straight shave....its gonna be a while. I will continue reading and watching those wonderful videos. And of course reading all of your very informative posts! I'm glad I found this place. It kinda reminds me of another passion of mine pipe smoking! That is a different tale!

Remember you don't need everything at once, and you don't always need what you want, obviously you will need the basics to get started ie brush, soap shave ready razor, strop and poss some pre shave.
Enjoy the journey and beware aquisition disorders, its like anti disorders anonymous here.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Welcome to SRP. Indeed they are neighbors. When I was reading your OP in this thread, "I love the craftsmanship of the straight razor," as I smoke my morning pipe, I thought of dérailleur bicycles and what a work of art they are. Straight razors, tobacco pipes, bicycles ....... right up there with sculptures by Rodin or Michaelangelo AFAIC. Enjoy the journey. For those of us who can appreciate the artistic qualities of straights it is an even more rewarding sport.
