I'm diabetic and one of the things I miss from breakfast on a regular basis is toast and jam, And the low sugar stuff out there is marginal compared to say a good marmalade. Sigh................
Sorry to hear that.
I get the best jams from Daylsfords in London.
Strawberrys with vanilla pods inside

My stepdad was from Knightswood Glasgow and here in the US he raised me on such treats as Black and white puddings. And I am one sausage eating hobbit let me tell you. If sausage ever disappeared from the earth then so would I.
Cumberland, Lincolnshire, the good old Richmond sausage.
Nower days I eat vegetarian sausages.
They take hardly any cooking and can be quite nice..
I'm feeling hungry now.
No more Mr. Nice Guy.
I added a chocolate twist.

I do love a good sausage and was very surprised at how good Cumberland sausage was when we visited the UK. We had brunch at a hotel in the UK and the breakfast sausage was very good also. I had the meat variety and the boss had the veggie variety. I had a taste of her's and got some more veggie sausage for myself as it was that good. Makes me wonder why any plant based meats I have tried over here taste nothing like the real thing.
Bob
It seems the UK is quite forward in catering for vegetarians . Vegetarian meals, products are available everywhere. Not quite the case in other European countries.
I find the veggie sausages to be OK in small doses.
My sandwiches today are veggie sausages with cheddar cheese, pickle and mayo.
Thought I'd share at that :)
Where did you visit in the UK Bob?
Been lucky to visit the UK a number of times over the years beginning in the early 1970s with the RCN to Plymouth and Portsmouth. Then later my wife's family had friends in Surrey whom we visited with on a number of occasions. Took the train to Scotland and the ferry over to Northern Ireland one time.
Bob
Nice.. you've seen more of the UK than me ;)
I've never been to Ireland or Scotland.
I might go camping in the Highlands one time, it is in my plans.
One thing I do know is if you go camping in the highlands, camp where it's a little breezy....why ? swarms of midges !!!:dropjaw:

I used to make this Scottish dish called woodcock,I just called it Scots toast myself but, it's toast with butter and anchovy spread over it followed by a layer of scrambled egg and a little onions and or caper if you wanted to get all haute about it .
Good cuppa tea or coffee with that and yer off and runnin. I sometimes added a little hot sauce on top when I wanted to totally mess up the culture of it but man it was good.:)
How was the herring done i.e smoked ,pickled ??
How to make toast for those who desire more surface area for the butter, jams or whatever--:w

A long slow winter brunch. A lot like last Sunday. :)
Coffee, soft boiled eggs with a touch of salt, rye and wheat bread with butter and
- tomato
- spiced herring
- cloudberry jam
I’ve never heard of cloudberry jam. Please provide some additional information - I’m intrigued by the name.
Here you go:

Never heard of cloudberries in our part of the Boreal Forest. We might be too far south and with the wrong climatic conditions.
Bob
Could be as according to the link there is a zone from 55 N Lat to 44 N Lat that has a scattering of them. That would put Northern Minnesota in that area south of us and in the Boreal Forest belt we share. I doubt there is enough of them in that southern zone for people to bother looking for them. Up here they would sooner fight the Black Bears for the fall wild blueberry crop. ;)
Bob
Not Breakfast---YET--But getting there--about 1/2 way done with slicing and vacuum sealing--
