Thread: From garden to table!

As you can see I have been busy tonight with my wife canning some banana peppers. My small garden is starting to pay off!

I also have tomatoes, which are not ripening fast enough for me to make salsa ( I know there are a few in the picture but that is about it so far), three bags of broccoli frozen and more coming, habanero, jalapeno, butternut squash, cucumbers, and zucchini. This is my first time with a garden and am already making plans for next year.

Who else has a garden and what do you grow?

Thats great,grow all the peppers and maters.put up 10 gals of pickels this summer.lots of beans and sqush still coming on but the summer season is about over.garlic go's in next week along with lettice and peas,beats,chard,spinich.all the cool crops.

Must be nice have a few season to grow in.

We have an apple tree in garden

These ones we had to dump in the compist because we let them lie and nature had its nibble.



These ones we saved and most will go into a pie.



We have now decided around dinner time every day we will do a recce roynd the tree and pick up any fallen apples. They are good apples. Noce cruchy n sweet.

We did just OK for our first Garden up here

Spinach did very well
Lettuce did very well but the Deer enjoyed much of it
Wife's Pumpkins are rocking
The Roma Tomatoes were awesome but right as they were getting to ripe we had a small band of Deer move in and I doubt I have any left

So I have Fat Healthy Deer in the front yard, anyone wanna trade Fresh Vegi's for Deer Jerky ????




It was honestly just a experiment to see if we enjoyed it, but darn I was looking forward to the Wife's Homemade Spaghetti sauce..

I like this idea and do the same. It will also help keep the apples still on the tree clean.I talked to a older man that grew up on my mothers farm. When he chased cows every day in his youth he would bring an apple to eat and bury the core. I often wondered why there were so many random apple trees around! There were a few about 20 feet in the pasture and a couple more 20 feet outside the fence nearby. After morning milking the cows would run to the ones in the pasture to eat the fallen apples. I can't ever remember finding a worm in one from those trees. The ones outside the fence were another story. 90% of those had something wrong with them. This reminds me I want to get a graft of the one in the SE corner to add to a tree in my yard now. I have no idea of the variety but they are excellent!

What is worse than finding a worm in your apple????
