Thanked: 292It sounds like the ham turned out every bit as wonderfully as you hoped.
Perhaps we should change you nickname to old sawbones.
I looks like you wielded those tools with surgical precision.
I am glad it was a great time for you and your family, especially your son's birthday. You got to honor your grandfather, father, and son all at the same time. Well done.

As I've often said I worked as a 'Meat Cutter' for several years. I was never a butcher so I had never broken down a pig leg as they came broken down and the hams were already processed and wrapped at least at the shop that I'd worked at. So I figured that I had a 50% chance of cutting the upper leg bone at a 90deg angle. If I would have been wrong no real 'biggie' it's just that if the bone would have been cut at say a 45 deg angle the bone would 'look' much larger.
At the shop that I did work at we did cut down picnic hams and if you messed up no one would buy them as the 'Looked' like they were ALL BONE!!
Yes I did get to honor not only my Great Grandfather, my Grandfather, my Father and my Son. But also my Uncle Walt who left behind the F. Dick Knives, steel and saw but also my Great Grandmother Lily Grey Taylor on my mom's side who left behind the serving dish.
Thanks for appreciating Heritage :Our house is as Neil left it- an Aladdin’s cave of 'stuff'.
