I used to have chickens and have eaten a few old layers as well. They are best pressure cooked and then made into stew. They can still be on the rubbery side even is they have been pressure cooked, but that is some flavourful broth. I had one that all I ate was the broth. I pressure cooked it three time and the meat still was not chewable, the dog ate the meat and I made a fantastic soup from the broth.

I have experienced what happens when the pressure cooker vent clogs up while making chicken soup. When the safety plug blows, it rains chicken soup in the kitchen. It’s amazing how quickly all the liquid and solid stuff can pass through that little hole in the lid.

Not something I ever want to go through or clean up again.

I hope you or anyone else weren't injured.

When Joel (Benz) got me started pressure canning I followed his sage advice--

Always clean the vent before using Pressure Canner/Cooker--Never fill Pressure Canner/Cooker more than 1/2 full--Never just walk away and leave the canner unattended.

I actually purchased some real pipe cleaners/not those used for hobbies to clean the canner's vent tube. Also my canner uses a 'wiggler' to let off steam AND it has a gauge so you can see if it's getting too hot.

Nobody was hurt as a result of the chicken soup deluge.

I had stepped out of the kitchen for a second when I heard the WHOOSH. I initially though we had burst a pipe in the ceiling and it was water falling like rain from the ceiling tiles.

I came closest to hurting myself when I slipped on the fat infused chicken broth covering the floor. We went through a lot of towels that day.

While this might fit in with the 'What do you have in the mail' thread, I thought I'd post it here.

I"m wanting to try making some luncheon meats including bologna and my little food processor isn't up to the task of emulsifying the finely ground meat. I found an older Robot Coupe Rc2800 Commercial Professional Food Processor at FleaBay for a reasonable price so I bought it.

It landed last Friday at my buddy Ski's place (saves me about 10% in taxes) and I picked it up yesterday when I went down to shoot pool (I actually held my own/I usually get my ass handed to me) anyway once I got it home I carefully unpacked it and I found that I'd gotten the 'NOID' as it's broken up pretty good!

If I pick it up and turn it around I can hear plastic and metal parts tumbling around. I let the seller know and sent pics including several of the box which doesn't look like it was abused. I told the seller that it was a total loss and I'd like a full refund. So far no word from the seller

I found a different unit that was more money but it had more attachments and purchased it. I then contacted this seller telling them of the cluster F*** with the first one and I have been reassured that this unit will be very carefully packed as they don't want to see the machine damaged as it's a good running unit.

I do hope that the first seller doesn't give me the run around as some have in the past. It's my understanding that the seller has three business days to resolve any issues. I don't count yesterday but today is day ONE.

Ebay is not quite as risky as it used to be.

Now you can report them and get help from ebay, you can also start a dispute with PayPal if you used them.

I hope you get your money back.

Easter dinner week continues but is nearing its end.

I did not feel well this morning so I used a sick day to take the day off.

My wife made some Ham stew and biscuits!

As she opened the oven door it fell open and jammed, The biscuits weren't done.....

I stayed home hoping not to have to fix other peoples problems!

After 1/2 hour of thinking and hammering I got it closed.

It is not fixed but my solution is to use a vinegar jug to keep it from opening to far for the time being.

This stove is from the 1940"s so I am sure parts are not available but I want to keep it going.

For now the door closes and I am going to have a late lunch!
