    Default Planked Salmon

First attempt at planked salmon. Turned out good.

Looks like it came out nice--the most important thing is--how does it taste?

I've never done the salmon on cedar as I don't see the 'Why'. With that said I am interested on your thoughts.

I love grilling salmon on cedar planks. I just have to be careful that I do not let the grill get to hot and set the cedar on fire. I have done that a few times. Always keep a spray bottle of water handy in case you need it.

I have always seasoned the salmon with McCormick Salmon Seasoning, but I understand they discontinued that Grill Mate blend along with many others is the lineup.

Looks good, the trick with fish is not to overcook it. It will continue to cook after you pull it off the fire.

We eat a lot of salmon, love it, Smart & Final and Trader Joe’s have a good selection of seasonings. We usually cook with salt and pepper, finish with a dab of butter or olive oil and lemon or orange zest, or add a fruit chutney.

When I was growing up, we had a cabin at a local lake, would take a charcoal hibachi, slice up some onions, tomato and lemon and take a roll of foil with us fishing. Wrap gutted fresh trout in foil on a bed of lemon and tomato, season with salt and pepper and a dab of butter, 10 minutes on the coals and that was the best meal ever, never got tired of it.

It’s true, fish is super easy to overcook. Cedar plank it good, so it maple plank. I try to keep my fish very simple. Salt, pepper, lemon are the essentials.

I had planked salmon in Cape Breton last summer. The fellow said they had been using the same maple plank for over 15 years.

I asked if he had ever burned a plank and he said that the owner of the restaurant told him if he did, he would need to find other work. There wasn’t even a scorch mark on it.

I too like my salmon. My wife insists it be cooked outside on the rec-tec... Coming off the grill right now.

Mostly it was an impulse by I was at the meat counter at the local grocery store and the person next to me was buying some of the cedar planks. I had always wanted to try it. It turned out good, didn't think I could eat all of the fish but I guess I was wrong.

As an aside, my bride bought an Air Fryer. One that was advertised on TV she bought it on sale locally, I think at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Holy Hot Dogs.

That thing is amazing. It cooks French Fry’s, Hot wings, Shrimp and Tater Tots to perfection with little to no grease. She just mists with olive oil and hot fries are ready in minutes. You would never know it was not deep fried, except it is not greasy, full flavor, super crispy, cheap, fast, easy cleanup and healty – er. What’s not to like?

Clean up is super simple and quick, removable washable cooking tray make it a snap. The only downside is the tray size, it is a bit small but cooking time is so short, multiple batches is very doable for a crowd.
