Pepper grinder
I have had a zassenhaus grinder for 25 to 30 years now and the pot metal cap has worn its hexagon hole out so it is hard to remove the cap to refill.
Should I stick with what I have liked and buy another? Chances are I won't live long enough to wear another out. Or does any one have a recommendation of another brand?
I do like the crank handle and like my grind on the course side.

Thanked: 4826Until I had children, I had a Peugeot pepper mill that was fantastic. I bought it second hand and had it for a long time. It got broken and at the time we did not have that kind of coin to drop on a pepper mill. If I saw another in a shop I’d be all over that these days. At the lodge I used to work at, the mill was Trudeau. Also a nice mill.

Thanked: 81I just looked into this a couple of months ago because our Peugeot stopped working properly, and I doubt we'll be eligible for the lifetime warranty. I haven't pulled the trigger yet, but will probably go for the Cole & Mason Ardingly because I like the more classic style. Other finalists in my search were the Zassenhaus, the Unicorn Magnum, and the PepperMate pepper mills.

I saw many good reviews for the Peugeot mill. Most of theirs don't have the crank handle that i like and that may be more important the older I get. Were you able to get a course grind from the one yo had?
I will have to look up the Trudeau ones.

Thanked: 81I should add that I like the Peugeot mill that we have, and am kind of bummed that it's not working like it used to, even after a thorough cleaning. Like anything with moving parts, they will degrade over time. After looking into it more thoroughly, I decided against another Peugeot because apparently the burrs in their newer mills wear down fairly quickly, more quickly than the older ones (I don't think this has been empirically proven, however, maybe it's just hearsay). This shouldn't be a big deal if you keep the warranty information, since they offer a lifetime warranty. But I figure that if I'm going to buy a new mill anyways, I'd like to try something different. After all, if variety is the spice the of life, then what better place to start than the spice grinder, right? (please don't ban me from the forum for that terrible joke)

Tim, I've used one similar to this since 2017 for grinding black peppercorns, however it isn't available anymore. with that said, I'm 90% sure this is the same thing. It's fully adjustable, easy to use and will quickly make a LOT of ground pepper and so far doesn't show any signs of wearing out.
I highly recommend it.

I have a Skeppshult which is cast iron and wood with a ceramic mechanism. I expect it to last forever. It's made in Sweden.

WOW. I guess I have a lot to learn about Peper Mills. I like a coarse grind. I bought a nice kit to make my own. Stainless grinder. Still haven't gotten to it yet.
It's just Sharpening, right?
