Jack and Ginger (bourbon and ginger ale).
Wild Turkey. On the rocks. Splash of water.
Single malt scotch, rocks
Johnny Walker black/red, soda
Vodka tonic
(if yer feelin crazy) red bull & vodka
Guiness. Sweet nectar of the gods.
Rye and Ginger with a lime slice.
Or vodka cranberry orange.
Usually I'll have scotch neat. Sometimes tequila neat or with a splash of lime. I used to like Jack & Ginger, Jack & Coke, or Captain's & Coke, but I mostly stopped drinking mixed drinks.
Actually, this reminds me that I've not been to the bar in quite a while...
basil-i have never tried rye, i will try this one when i get back (if they have rye at the bars)
not a big fan of jack, and you dont know how bad that always ends up since i live in TN lol,
thanks for the suggestions

For me its either a Gin Martini (very dry), Single Malt Scotch (on the rocks) or a Vermouth Cassis.
The latter is difficult to order because so few bartenders know how to make it. The recipe is, as follows:
1 1/2 oz dry vermouth
3/4 oz creme de cassis
carbonated water
I forgot to mention that I have also been known to order a "Horse's Neck." That's brandy and ginger ale over ice.
Im a bugga for whackin some JD whiskey in my coffey now an then , try it if ya havnt already
Water tumblers full of scotch.
:beer2:
JD on the rocks or a glass of Merlot for me. If I'm especially bored, I'll go for Almaden Mountain Rhine on rare occasions because it reminds me of when I was in high school. ;-) (1960s)

Namaste,
Morty -_-
well.. being the raging alcoholic that i am. i have a tendency to drink anything and everything.. however.. my usual night out drinking usually involves stella throughout the entire night with tequila shots starting after about the fourth pint.. if i get really loaded i'll start doing gnarly bombs. it's a shot of half tequila, half jagermeister.. dropped into salted grass of redbull with lime squeezed into it..
if i'm just having a drink or two with friends.. usually a white russian or a maker's mark with a splash of amerhetto and a couple cherries.
This evening I'm enjoying my new holy grail of beers: Highland Brewery's Gaelic Ale, but I also regularly drink PBR's, if that means anything.
On the occasional night out with friends to a brew pub that has something like 300 beers from around the world, I'll usually try some new wheat-beer or exotic ale.
As for the hard stuff, I like gin and tonics with lime in the summer. In the colder months I like bourbon (Dickel, Maker's Mark, some of the other sweeter bourbons), and if I'm flush with cash, the occasional bottle of scotch (Dahlwhinnie is a favorite single malt), though I'm just as happy with Johnny Walker red, Dewar's, or Cutty Sark.
My beverage of choice is often determined by the bar, my mood, what I started drinking at home and the season.
Case studies:
Dive bar: Shot and a beer (Jack/Jameson and a Bud). When the crowd's rowdier I'll wave the empty bottle and be happy enough. If I'm rowdier I'll just have the shot and start throwing the bottles...
Mexican joint: 'Ritas! Until the lime juice gets to me and it's shots of tequila and beers.
Buttoned down lounge: A classic ****tail like a Gin-n-Tonic (summer) or Black Label Rocks (Winter).
Cuban place: Mojitos
If I started with anything earlier in the evening I usually keep it up. Mixing has a way of making me regret it.
Finally, if I show up and someone's has a drink and offers me one, I just ask for one of the same. Guests should not be fussy.
Guinness. No, it's not beer, it's stout. Surely an Irishman such as yourself, would be knowing that now, wouldn't ya', lad?
When I'm at home usually a wee 330 of some craft ale, or a whisky. If I'm on a night out usually lager, ending with (almost) anything. When I'm with friends usually just straight whisky with what I usually put in it...what is it again...
Ah yes.
More whisky.
I mostly stick with lager and try to avoid strong drinks. In some rare cases i want to take hard ones it is either malt whiskey with ice or strong herb liqueur such as Jägermeister, Vana Tallinn or Fernet Branca.
Beam n Coke with a slice of lime and when I can get'em,a good Mojito.Other than that i'm mostly into Iced Vanilla Lattes to chill on.:) Mick n I seem to be on the same wave length here heh.
It depends where I am what the weather is like and what mood I'm in, but, I only drink two things other than beer when out so its still not that complicated. Gin and tonic with extra lime, or single malt on the rocks. That's it unless you're buying.
JD or Jameson.
In hot weather: Bombay gin and tonic.
I believe there are also vodka martinis.... a James Bond favourite and becoming quite popular these days.
Depending on the day, either a nice lager or a single malt whisky neat. Usually scotch but now we also have Glen Breton Rare out of Cape Breton! Can't understand how all you guys are ruining perfect good whisky by drinking it over ice, or mixing with pop. Blech. :-)
Tanqueray Ten with Qtonic tonic water and lime.
http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...k/DSC_0005.jpg
Wine (red in particular), Belgian and German beers, grappa, sambucca, G&T, whiskey, rum (especially in caiprinha), tequila, Strega, Madiera...
I have a pretty wide taste in drinks! :beer1:
Right now in the summer, it's Vodka and Lemonade.
Tanqueray Ten or Beefeater martini with 2 olives, 3 olives if I'm hungry:)
STANDARD RUSSIAN VODKA.
MAN i drunk that stuff yesterday and all night long was struggling. barely made home.
goes like a water and after 30 minutes everything starts.
Now, the drink of choice just ends up being beer, belgian beer. It's odd because I never did enjoy beer, but these are just something else. And there are many to choose... However, beers (even these ones) tend to be a bit... long. :)
I have a sweet spot for my Irish Whiskeys, Bushmills in particular. If it's the mormal one, 2 rocks of ice; Black Bush, 1 rock or none (depending on the weather); the single malts I drink with nothing else - maybe a drop of cold mineral water.
I have a need for single malt scotch during those long nights when the "black dog" barks. I haven't had one of those lonely scotches in a while... :)
Single Malt Scotch, Vodka, Tequila Depending on the mood:beer2:
I usually keep 3-to-5 kinds of whisk(e)y open in the home lineup:
Single malts (Islay preferred) neat, with water back
Bourbon, rocks. I also grow mint in the summer for mint juleps.
I also enjoy rye, Irish, the occasional Canadian. The latter is almost always Pendleton's, for the holidays. Its spice notes make it a natural for Christmas sipping.
Beer, and lots of it, Ales, lager and most any kind of quality brew.
Belgian, German and Norwegian mostly.
A nice french red, Gin Tonic, Dry martinis, Single malt Whiskey.
If there's Balvenie at the bar (12- or 15-year; 21 is just for home), that's what I get. Always neat.
If there's no Balvenie (which is a sad story), then it's an Old Fashioned.
I usually have mine with a little club soda; how much depends on what type of bourbon is used. If it's a good bourbon - Jim Beam Black, etc. - then just a splash of club soda is all I use.
I find myself instructing bartenders on this drink as of late... pleading with them not to smash the fruit. Seems to be a losing battle. :(
I like Jack & Ginger too, but if you like the run & gin drinks, I would suggest trying a GOOD Mojito ... smooth and light. Great summer/hot weather drink.
Here here,Quote:

Where I come from and amongst those with whom I drink, mixing single malts, or to be honest any decent scotch whiskey with anything other than a dash of tap water is considered a form of sacrilege (here in Scotland we have some of the best drinking tapwater anywhere). Oh the scorn that would be heaped on me for even considering adding some form of softdink or ice..... Doesn't bear thinking of really :p
And on to my drinking lol, I used to love negro modello beer, but nowhere here seems to sell it now, I have taken to budvar, and also sam adams on occasion, but whiskey is my favourite go to of choice, although I have a spot for a bloody mary now and them :)
Geek
Anyone else here like to infuse their own liquors?
I recently made a pear/cinnamon infused vodka:
4 sticks cinnamon
5 pears cored and cut up into largish chunks
1 gallon of potato vodka
Leave in a container in a dark area for a week, stirring daily. Vodka turns to a color that resembles Apple Juice. Strain out and pour into glass containers that you can pour from.
The finished flavor had almost no alcohol taste or smell to it. It was really minimal which was surprising as I expected to just add the flavor. I found that if I took a bottle of Mott's Apple Cider (not the powder crap), and did a 50/50 of cider/vodka in a shaker with ice, shook it up to chill it and then poured it.... the flavor actually resembled apple sauce. There was no alcoholic taste to it which made it dangerous.. but tasted delicious.

I occasionally infuse Jack Daniels with some Coke. Other than that, it's Irish whiskey or bourbon, neat. My wife likes vodka though, so I'll pass this recipe along to her; thanks for sharing.
In Korea it's popular in the smaller towns for people to infuse rice wine with various things, usually some kind of bone they attribute a health benefit to. I've never had it but I've been told it has a taste like everclear and gasoline mixed. I've also heard of infusing coffee and vodka but have never tried it.
