Somewhere I think a good friend of ours who hails from the Lone Star State was looking down on me hoisting a huge mug of Shiner Bock and saying, "Here's to ya, Brother." And yes, they are every bit as tasty as I recall.
My local grocery stores carry shine bock. One even has their heffeweizen, which is also quite tasty.

Tonight I was at a bluegrass/americana show (Dehlia Low and The Steel Wheels both played) and as I'm a cheapskate, Saranac Ale in a can was my pleasure. Nothing like an evening of great music and decent beer.

For some reason it brings me show much joy to see two of my favorite things (SRs and beer, natch) together.

Today's beer was a local brew, Squatter's IPA.

It's all about the pairing. A quarter hollow grind to a wedge go best with a dry hopped IPA. A full hollow grind lends itself well to a stout. If you like lagers they tend to go best with a DE. If you drink light beers you need to stick with disposables...
