i have been reusing my black teas more than once, the green tea was a teabag, havent tried any in a few weeks. so reinfusing black tea is a no/no
reinfusing any tea is a no no.Always start with fresh whether it's loose or bagged. It would be the same as if you rebrewed coffee....icky!!
Well I tried "Chai" today...
(Black Tea, Ginger Root, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Cloves, Natural Flavor & Cardamom)
I must say... Quite strange... Neither good nor bad... Like eating Christmas spices...
Mmmmm......I love chai.I make my own spice blend.Luuuuuv it.I make mine without the black pepper though.Less bite. What blend or brand did you use?i.e. Was it your own blend or store bought?:D
Store bought... Hy-Vee Brand... Local grocery store chain in Iowa... Maybe other places...
New change... I brewed another cup and added 1 tbs Brown sugar and a "Splash" of milk... I never drink milk in tea... This did WONDERS for the flavor...
However, still not a everyday drink...
.
Hey Loon, try agave nectar for sweetening your tea......it has no noticeble overbearing taste like honey and it is low glycemic. As said before always start with fresh tea and no more than 3-4 min brew time. That should cure your tannin upset bud.;)
Honey and warmed milk are the traditional for Chai and here is my blend of Chai that you can make and put in a shaker and add to your cup if you like. Ground Cardamom,Ground Clove,Ground Ginger,And Ground Cinnamon. If you can, get real Cinnamon from a good spice store as it is awesome. You just shake a little in your cup of black tea fresh each time and your partyin in the Taj Mahal man !:D
Gotta go to work guys, see ya on forum tonight though.Happy shaving and tea and pipes and stuff !;)
ever try kava tea? it is a little expensive but very enjoyable. However, I heard that it can be bad for ones liver? Then on the other hand, I heard that it is only bad for ones liver if the stem is incorporated into the mix instead of pure leaf?
This is more of a personal preference on taste I believe than a hard and fast rule. I do 3 infusions with my Jasmine Pearl tea with the first hit infusing about 30 seconds the second one infuses for about a minute and the last infusion about 2 to 3 minutes and have never had any degradation on flavor. Puerh from what I have heard requires multiple infusions to get the full taste from the leaves.
I have to disagree with you there. I drink oolong tea brewed in a small yixing tea pot. With multiple infusions you can observe the flavour and the subtitles slowly changing after each steeping.
Having said that I can understand why you would only brew English tea in a big pot once. Also, if it has been any longer than a few hours since the last steeping I throw the leaves out and start fresh.
In the end it just comes down to personal taste.
Don't give up on Chai just yet. There are many varieties of Chai Nosewarmer, Check out the ingredients of the Chai you have and look for another one with a different or slightly varied ingredient list. It could be just one of the spices added to what you have in stock that is the problem. Just a thought anyway mate. Only you know what you like best.

Mick is correct on that.Their are as many Chai recipes as their are fried porkchop recipes.Their are also many different ways to go about making Chai.Try that spice recipe I gave ya.You can either brew it directly in the tea or shake it in the tea after adding your sweetener and milk and it works fine either way. There is no black pepper in it which I find is uneccessary anyway and that might be the culprit. Most premade Chai's can't beat the real deal any way.The spices should be as fresh as possible.;)
so I came across this if anyone is interested.Go to Russian Samovars - Rare Judaica Antiques, Samovar, Kiddush Cups, Jewish Gifts and look under tea recipes. Some really good recipes for brewing the concentrated tea I was talking about. Really really good in fact.;)
well just orderd some pu erh tuo cha from the art of tea, i now have to get a decent lucite tea cup with infuser so i can enjoy it a work a little easier. till then i will have to be creative, still enjoying my lapsang souchong, many thanks to those that recomended them, i love them both, and am completely hooked. has been a month or so since ive had a cup of coffee, have even put away the grinder and the coffee pot. funny i dont miss it. am i lost.
Nah......my french press has been sitting cold for months and the grinder got put away same as you.No worries.Maybe you should have a cup of tea and relax and think about it ?
has anyone tried keemun panda. its a tad different than the other teas i have been drinking, i find it a bit earthier than a puerh, but that may be my tastebuds, what do others say.
its white tea for me its the least processed tea and most beneficial. no sugar as the flavor is too delicate and adding sweet or fruit juice would overpower. don't know why tea and coffee seem to have opposite effects if theyre both caffinated. must be some other compound in tea that is calming
Tea has a different type of caffeine than coffee and lacks all the volatile oils that coffee has.
another aspect of this that i dont believe is being considered, is the fact that where as coffee is best if it consumed within a timeframe after it is roasted, anywhere from a week to maybe 3 weeks depending on storage YRMV. stale coffee produces more of the unsavory acid than fresh. Where as there are teas that get better with age, pu erh for one, and i may be incorrect, but i am not aware of tea that can get stale. again i may be wrong, if i am i do appologize for my inadaquecy on this subject.
Tea just like anything else can go stale.I'm really not sure how long it takes though.I'm not that hardcore of a purist.I've had a box of Pg Tips unopened sit for a few months and it was fine. But bear in mind it was all wrapped up and sealed prior.I bought a very nice and affordable replica Chinese tea tin at cost plus world market and it works great. It's got a double lid so it really keeps the tea nice.I am really thinking hardcore about getting an electric Samovar.I love my Chai and my brit tea,but I could drink Russian style all day.I got a Russian Buddy that I been talking to on another thread and we've been talking tea. MMM..I gotta go grocery shopping but I''m feeling the tea pot and my Peterson pipe callin me errrgh! O the cruel temptations of my poor tortured life hahaha!!
And I just got some new shave soap and balm in from Al's shaving. So the blade is callin too.My life is utter heck :rofl2:
to be so troubled in life as to have a good pipe, a good cup of tea, and a great shave, what else could one want, well, there is always a great steak, and a good book. now i need a cup to relax, some more lapsang ought to do it.
Well....as much as I hate to admit it.A good woman would be nice too I suppose heh and fur kids are nice to have around also.Dog or cat or both,it done mattuh ta me as long as they are good companions .:D
I may have already said similar ,but out of all the threads I am really amazed at the feedback from this one.I just thought I was gonna get a few people who were like lipton ice tea people and that would be that. I was wrong indeed............very cool.
I haven't posted on this site in quite a while, but saw this thread and wanted to contribute. I started drinking tea a few years ago when I decided I was drinking WAY too much coffee. I was out of work with an injury and had nothing better to do than drink coffee, which was making me too jittery. I checked into it also about the same time I checked into shaving with a straight razor.
I ended up going the route of green tea, mainly for it's taste over black tea. All teas have a health benefit from them, some more than others but from my deep immersion I found that they are all pretty much in line with each other, meaning that if you like black tea than by all means drink black tea, don't just change to green or white because you think it will be that much better for you even if you find you don't enjoy it as much as the black tea.
Black teas are meant to have boiling water added whereas green should be brought just to a steam and white even less. This definitley affects the taste. I have a tea thermometer that I use and I've found some greens taste better at say 160 F while others maybe at 180 F. I am currently drinking a China gunpowder organic and it is my go to green...for now. There are also some loose leaf teas that can be infused multiple times, as was mentioned in the earlier post. There is no harm in doing it.
I drink only loose leaf tea, even at work. I keep it in container with a lid on it at pretty much room temp and out of the light it will stay fresh for a while. I have a portable strainer that I use for the leaves when I'm at work and just put it into my cup and steep. Most greens I only steep for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes, but it's a personal thing.
As far as caffeine goes, the caffeine in tea acts differently than coffee. Coffee is pretty much a jolt type affect whereas tea actually helps clear your mind and keeps you alert. I can drink tea all day, and usually do, and have no problem sleeping at night. Black teas, which have the most caffeine, still only have about half as much as coffee. I believe the myth that you may sometimes hear that tea has more caffeine than coffee comes from the fact that unprepared tea leaves have more caffeine than unprepard coffee beans. Kind of odd, but that's one of those things I found in my spare time.
Studies have also been shown that people who drink tea on a regular basis are able to deal with stress much better than those who don't or who drink coffee. I've found that to be true in my own personal experiences and feel a lot less on edge. Herbal teas are another type of tea I drink on occasion, mainly at night.
Well, that's it for the tea rant for today. Enjoy.
We share the same view for sure.I still like to go to a coffee house and have a nice Iced vanilla latte when I want to just hang with friends and yak,but really.....Like you ,I can drink tea all dang day and even a full pot before bed and feel just fine.Coffee just rakes me over the coals pretty much .:)
Seeing we're on the tea subject, just curious where those who drink loose leaf teas buy theirs. I have been using SpecialTeas out of CT for years but they merged with TeaVana, which appears to be a box type store for tea. I've also bought from Republic of Tea which I'll probably go to more often now that SpecialTeas is out of business.
The herbal teas I buy from Mountain Rose Herbs, which also sells loose leaf teas, however I haven't purchased anything but the herbals from them. I have quite a bit of tea for now so won't need any for a while.

I am lucky enough to have 2 locally owned specialty stores near me. Though one called Chocolate Tea also has a website that you can order from.
This store has the same tea brands that I could get in Iraq... Other than that, I just look around the internet I guess...

i ordered my lapsang souchong from a website called the english tea shop, they are in PA, and my puerh came from a company called Art of Tea out of CA. i am trying to look more locally, and have found a few tea shops around, have been to one of them, looking for more.
It may sound out there, but if you guys have any good coffee houses out there, sometimes they sell decent loose tea.Try those.;)
nightblade, i do have a tea room located in my area, although close is subjective when you live in the middle of nowhere, actually i found 2 rooms, one has the lapsang i like and the other has the puerh that i like, downside, both are more expensive, and in opposite directions from my house. oh well, cant win them all, so i find using the net to order from is easier and faster, and cheaper on the gas side of things, have to save that to go to my kung fu classes, and get to work.
here is something i found last night while looking at sites to purchase pu erh from, thought i would pass it on to others, im planning on ordering the larger size later this week.

no night, what working for me is the fact that i paid my phone/internet, and power bill up for the next 6 to 10 months, and that takes some of the worry out for me, so i can spend money on loose tea. It also helps that my wife is a big tea drinker, so she is happy to see me drink something other than coffee, that always seemed to cost me more and more each year.
