I have had, but it's been long enough that I couldn't really compare them directly. Sounds like a good excuse to pick up a bottle of Laphroaig ten.

I'm over in Scotland at the wife's families for Hogmanay (New years eve).
I didn't bring any of my whiskey with me as my mother inlaw always gets me a good bottle for Christmas.
This year however she got me a new hip flask, I perfectly nice flask, but completely devoid of whiskey.
So I nipped out for a wee bottle to see in the bells with tomorrow night.
Got a bottle of Glenrothes select reserve. It's a non vintage whisky blending several of their vintages to make an incredibly smooth easy drunk whisky.
It's not gonna set your world alight but it's a brilliant fall back to have and a good regular for the drinks cabinet.
Very light on the peaty taste for a scotch, which as an Irishman I prefer. I do like a bit of peat, but over Christmas I finished a laphroaig 10yo, so I've had my share of peat for a while!
And I got it for £30, so hard to beat for value.
Today we got some Nikka Taketsuru pure malt 17 year old whiskey for NY eve libations. We had to give it a quick test drive to make sure it hadn't spoiled on the bumpy ride home. Our first venture into Japanese malt whiskeys was a surprise with lots of fresh fruit on the nose. A dash of cold water and it exploded. It had nice balance and layers fruit, sweet wood, spice, smoke, peat and I could go one. Each sip offered something new & different for two glasses. Had to stop or we'd have finished it. Har!! I don't think we've had anything like this whiskey before. Now to try and find a 21 year.
