Correction, sampling now..
For my first impression, taste the cask for sure. Smooth too, considering the octane.
I think I like it. Came with a nice skinny jigger too.
Dalwhinnie 15 yr old tonight (Christmas present)
So who got anything nice for Christmas? I now have a nice bottle of glenfarclas 15 year old.
Nope, didn't get anything new, but we sure got into a bunch. My uncle took a real shine to my Aberlour 12. I got some cash for Christmas, and I think I may pull the trigger on a Glenfarclas.
Do it. They're all good and surprisingly different from each other. I recall 10 year old being enjoyably oily and tarry, more reminiscent of an island dram.
12 is more what you might expect, rich, raisiny and sherried.
15 is surprisingly different. Sherried but drier and not as rich. Less dried fruit and more floral notes, perhaps (only tried it the once so far).
105 is a big Christmas cake in a bottle and I've not tried anything else yet. The 18 is said to be disappointing, so maybe I'll skip that. 21 is probably very good though. 40 is said to be amazing but rather out of my budget.
Only problem up here seems to be that all of them are hard to find. The 17 caught my eye. Says it's Peated..... I like the peat....
17 does sound very good. I'd not go as far as a saying 'peated', rather it seems to have a hint of peat in the nose.
I'd suggest it's heavily dominated by the sherried spicy notes.
