My most recent purchase is The Glenlivet 12 year old. It was on sale, so I took the plunge. The first impression is that this whisky is kinda ordinary. There is nothing that really stands out...yet I have had two glasses tonight. I might classify this as a daily driver if it was a car.

The glenlivet 12 is the whisky I recommend to all starting whisky drinkers. It's nice fruity, floral nature makes it a very nice beginner.. And indeed, nothing more than that.. The 15 on the other hand is one of my favourites when it comes to price/quality. That and Glendronach 10y tawny port.

I would recommend the QC - in my opinion it's nicer than the 10.
Want the HP 18! What do you think of it? Maybe I'll buy a sample soon. I'd like to try that and the 21.

I'm sitting in a hotel room in Bushmills, Northern Ireland having just been on a tour of the distillery. A fantastic, experience if you ever get the chance. I tasted the 12 year old Distillery (only available on site) it has a smooth, vanilla flavour. Walked away with a bottle of 16 year old and am planning on trying the 21 year old in the hotel bar later on. I'll let you know how it goes.

Personally, I can't rate the HP 18yo highly enough. It is absolutely beautiful stuff. It is very balanced and smooth without being at all boring. There is plenty going on in there in terms of flavours.
I have never had the 21, but prefer the 18 to the 12. Here at least there is a hell of a difference in price between the two, so when it comes time to replace my 18, I honestly don't know if I'll go for the 18 again as it is literally $100 more than the 12. On the upside, that insane price difference is just about enough to justify a road trip back to New Hampshire where I bought it last time...
I've read in some reviews that in the past there have been quality issues with the 18yo, but it appears that has been sorted out. Quality certainly isn't an issue with my bottle.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Thanked: 1Woo hoo. Found some Laphroaig Quarter Cask and was able to buy it for my birthday today. Good thing I bought it first. We then went furniture shopping, bedroom set, and other stuff. Now we're broke. Have to live on macaroni (no cheese) and Scotch.
Life is good.
