I have been treating myself recently with the Japanese single malts. Yamazaki included. All different sorts. They are easy to come by out here in Japan. But my usual go-to's are Blanton's Gold for bourbon and Bowmore Islay 18year for Scotch.

A friend of mine who lived in Japan waxes nostalgic about Black Nikka, which could be purchased at 7-11.

Supermarkets seem to sell 5L plastic bottles of suntory whisky.

I was so impressed with the old particular from Douglas Laing that I simply had to get myself another one of their offerings last night.
This time I went with The Old Malt Cask, a Speyside malt aged 21 years.
    Distilled at Longmorn distillery.

A bit more character to this one, compared to the velvety Old Particular, but my golly what a tasty dram.
As it says on the bottle-neck:
No chill-filtration, no coloring, no nonsene!

Douglas Laing is quickly rising on my chart of fav makers.

In Japan, that is. I was slightly skeptical of the quality. It wasn't very expensive.

    Default 4th

To celebrate the 4th a Jameson Vintage Reserve. Has a very fancy presentation box made of fiber glass and just noticed my refection in it. Presentation boxes/bottle are nice but I would rather have $50 or what ever knocked off the price and give it to me in a brown paper bag.

I'm not very good with words but this is a really nice drink. Lots of over lapping layers with complexities in each layer with the finish going on for ever.

The plastic jugs of suntory are pretty bad. And by pretty bad, I mean HORRIBLE. They are really cheap though.

I just poured a rather large glass of McKenna Bourbon Whiskey.

    Default Scotch/whiskey of the day

Need a little help here. I'm going to link seven whiskies which have all come to my attention over the last few weeks. You can only choose one -- which would it be (and why)?

Perhaps bear in mind that the first three are 50cl bottles.
