Gerry, if it were a matter of "my drinking is a little out of control" I'd probably still be drinking. After 48 years of pretty hard living I'd been having some health problems, internal stuff...went to the see my doctor (whom I consider a trusted friend) and he basically said "You have pancreatitis, your liver is failing; Your next drink could literally kill you". Instant perspective! So my motivation was pretty solid.

I don't recommend this method of coming to abstinence however :P.

Well said. I hope that you don't misunderstand what I have said. With you obvious taste, I never assumed that it was any kind of overindulgence. Enjoy and do good Mike......

Not at all my friend. Some folks can drink for a lifetime without negative effect, but it was simply time for me to stop. The unfortunate part is that I really enjoyed good single malt. But it does free up capital for shaving gear :P

Eagle Rare Bourbon tonight, gents. 10 year old, single barrel. First impression is that it's similar to Buffalo Trace Bourbon but mellower.
My wife suggested I pick out something to share with friends after dinner. Knowing they were not Scotch fans I went with something on my Bourbon short list.
