Well fellas, Only had 2 drinks last night. Had a real good IPA with supper and then we went to this bar I had posted. They had a ton of selection in the way of whiskey. I spotted the bottle of Octomore 7.1 on the shelf and it was calling to me!

Fantastic stuff. Very smooth with a great mouth feel. Love the higher abv of 59.5% which gave a typical burn that I'm use to with the Scottish Barley I have. Didn't feel the need to add any water, even at that super high level. I was surprised at the peat smoke. I think Lagavulin 16 is in the 45 PPM range, same with Laphroiag quarter cask. This Octomore is up in the 200 ppm range, but it was definitely not too overpowering. Everyone at my table sure thought it was, but I enjoyed every bit of it. What I was not expecting, and really, really enjoyed was the black licorice/star anise flavor I was getting on the long finish. Truly amazing. I could make a dram of that last for 2 hours easy.

But...... after receiving the bill, and seeing it cost me $55 for this 1 oz dram, I pret near gave birth in my pants.

Was it good? Bet yer ass it was!
Am I glad I got it? Hell ya I am.
Was my wife pissed? Not as much as I thought she was, so it was a win all around!

I was the DD for the night so my wife got to have all the fun. I'm sure we'll be going back to this bar, it had great atmosphere and our server was great. Next time I'll try something a little less expensive.

    expensive.
I haven't had a chance to drop in here recently so I was just reading the last couple of pages of posts. This made me smile!

I'm working on a Buunnahabhain Toiteach for my blog, but not getting anywhere very fast. I'm not a fan of being busy.

Incidentally, anyone know of anywhere still selling the Lagavulin 12 year old cask strength? Preferably in the UK, ideally in Bath since I'll be dropping by there in a week or two's time. Norway seems to have run out.

I've had the best luck with this wine search page. Yep looks like Norway is dry.

Yeh, it's looking like I'm out of luck. I found a shop in Bath so I'll be emailing them in a moment to see if they have one. Seems like a long shot though.
