Well, my oldest son came home for Father's Day and helped me finish off what little Laphroiag Cask Strength I had remaining last night on the deck. The stuff is so rich that a splash of it is all you need. It has spoiled me for lesser malts.

As it is full-on summer now and hotter/more humid than the Devil's taint, I guess I'll switch to gin and tonics made with a pretty nice local gin called Kate's Courage by Mott's and Sons Distillery here in town. Enjoy whatever you have on hand, gents, and a belated Happy Father's Day to the Dads (and sons of Dads!). Aaron

I was sipping an Evan Williams black label on the rocks, but then, what should appear on the evening news but a story saying that today is National Martini Day. Therefore, since it's official and all:

Bombay Sapphire Gin, Boissiere Dry Vermouth, three olives, stirred, not shaken...bliss.

    Back to Evan later.

I''mm staying with friends in England for the week. Yesterday we were in lidl and i picked up a bottke of ben bracken 12 year old for £9.99. Wasn't expecting anything at all, especially for that price, but it's actually a pretty decent whisky. Anyone in the U.K. Should grab a bottle, it's a half decent single malt for a tenner.

I'm still giving the scotch a break, though I had to go visit the scotch aisle while I was at the ABC store just a few minutes ago. My awesome neighbor brought me a generous pour of Knob Creek SBR one recent evening after I returned from a long hike/fishing trip in the mountains (he's the same guy I recently got into straights). So to return the favor, I brought home this:
Don't you love the way the sun just lights it up? Almost makes it look wholesome.

If the heat and humidity will abate somewhat, I may enjoy a sip or two out on my deck later and watch the hummingbirds come in for their twilight nightcap. Cheers! Aaron

I enjoy Kentucky Bourbon, probably a bit more than Scotch these days. But I rarely embibe any longer. When I do, it's always Wild Turkey in Bourbon and Glenmorangie in Scotch. As I posted earlier, I have taken the Bourbon Trail tour in Kentucky, and Wild Turkey was my favorite tour, and my favorte taste. And their Master Distiller is the best, and wonderful to talk to.

But Knob Creek is a good drink. It is a very unique taste, that's for sure.

    Enjoy.

Well, the neighbor and I baptized the Knob Creek out on the deck, and spiced it up with just a little of what my mountain relatives call "cherry bounce" (a jar full of fresh cherries topped off by white lightning and left to marinate for a few weeks (I know a guy)-delicious.

Anyway, we came into my dining room after (we were fine, really!) and he got his 1st honing lesson (no power tools were involved-I'm not THAT stupid!!!). He asked a lot of questions and seemed genuinely fascinated by the process. I think I've ruined him-mmmmuuaahahahaha.
