What type of roaster do you use? I would guess a propane roaster for that type of volume.

Gents, at this point I prefer to roast micro batches, so I can try more coffees.
Trying the Samatrain this morning. Not bad but i think i like the Hondurus beans better so far in my press.

Glad to see you trying different beans Jerry. That's part of the fun of being a coffee snob :roflmao
But also happy to hear you're enjoying it
They're far worse things in life than being a coffee snob!
Ive been going by the basic rules of 15mg water to 1mg bean and brew for 4 minutes but its a bit much so ive been cutting back on the brew time and bean weight. It is getting very enjoyable now. Although i was out of beans yesterday morn so i had a cup of the folgers the wife makes. It had next to no flavor and was closer to warn water with a hint of coffee. Thats what i used to drink. Huh. Crazy.
Not crazy at all, you should try some fresh roasted beans, they're the best.
Yeah, after going to the good stuff Jerry it's tuff to go back.
As to your measurements, to each their own. You adjust to what you like and enjoy!!!
I find my favorite Espresso is a bit light, according to what is "Recommended" as the optimum amount. But then again, I don't use a dark Espresso roast either.
So find what works for you, and go with it :tu
Well, it is with a heavy heart that I announce the sad passing of my Freshroast roaster. :(
After five years of excellent and diligent service, the leaky roof-induced soaking proved a calamity too far. It recovered for long enough to do a couple of good roasts, but then was just unable to generate enough heat to do a proper roast. It's a sad, sad day chez Cangooner.
Thanks to a couple unexpected expenses, $$ is tight these days, so running out and getting the Gene Cafe that I really would like to get is out of the question. So now I need to decide whether to just get another Freshroast, save for a fairly short while to get a Behmor, or save for quite a while to get a Gene Cafe.
In the meantime, please join me and raise a cup of your favourite brew in memory of a fine tool. It served me well and owes me nothing. RIP Freshie.
