Buy an Alum block. When done shaving wet block and rub all over shaven areas. Wait 30 seconds to a minute. Rinse off with cold or cool water. Dry and apply balm, cream or AS of your choice. Mine is Gold Bond Ultimate Diabetics Dry Skin Relief and I'd even use it if I wasn't type 2 Diabetic. Sensitive skin. And also, enjoy the burn that goes away rapidly when you apply the Alum block.

I do use a alum block. I agree it feels great. Just concerned about the scaring. I have been only doing the straight razor for a little over a month. Today I got a nice cut under my ear on my neck

It could be razor angle. I did notice that I was cutting/nicking myself a lot when I started. When I got serious about blade angle a lot of the cuts and irritated skin went away. I also made sure I renewed the lather during the shave, as often as needed. Also, I discovered if I let my mind wander or think ahead of how I was shaving was a major cause of cuts and irritation. Hope this helps.

I think I was not paying attention because this is the first one I had in couple of weeks. I have only been straight shaving for a month

There you go. Its almost having to get in a Zen mood. Straight razor shaving is a combination of plain old technique, the art of problem solving and the patience to conquer the challenge of perfection (which if it ever came you'd have to stop shaving because you've reached nirvana.)

During the last year I have nicked myself a few times. A lot less now than in the beginning. I have not noticed any scars from it. Usually I do nothing but pressure to stop the bleeding.

As far as preventing scars from nicks and cuts, have you tried neosporin (or other triple antibiotic)?
