I use the cheap clubman bay rum from the barber supply shop near my house. I like it, and for 5 bucks, it certainly doesn't break the bank.

Yesterday I found in a drawer a small bottle of Pimenta Racemosa and it still contained some oil in it. I therefore thought about making some Bay Rum again. It is quite a long time I do not make any so I thought it was the time. I went to the nearby mall and bought a bottle of Rum and some extra ingredients and I made it. Now I need to wait 3-4 weeks and it will be ready. Spicy smell is probably to be around with my February shaves. :-)

Thanked: 0Thank you all for the advice. I think that one day I will have to make my own. I have tried Dominica before and loved it and the WOTH gave me a bottle of St. John's West Indies which I also enjoy. I guess I am suffering from BRAD in a big way right now.

Thanked: 1185I found a local Mom and Pop beauty supply store that carries Lucky Tiger Bay Rum. For sure it's very different than Clubman Bay Rum but I found I like it very much over the last couple weeks.

Thanked: 0I've never tried Bay Rum yet, but I am definitely getting antsy after reading all about it.
Does anyone have recommendations on a "baseline" Bay Rum to get started with?

You're going to get a lot of suggestions on this one.
I'll give four recommendations in no particular order:
1. Ogallala. Ordering from them always includes some extras. Shake well before using.
2. Captain's Choice. Less clove than most.
3. Pinaud Bay Rum. Pretty basic.
4. Dominica. Highly praised on this site
Any one of those will give you a good Bay Rum experience, but you Must Know that all are variations on a theme.
Love the BR....BRAD is reall!!!Malo periculosam libertatem quam quietum servitium

Thanked: 0^^ I started with the Ogallala Bonanza pack, great choice. I ordered it through amazon. Four different scents + bay rum cologne.
