Has anybody thought of looking at the Gold Bond brand of face products. They have a Men's Skin Moisturizer among many items. No glamorous name, no super high price, no bragging rights on 'the best there is', just good everyday product for everyday use. For those of us working through the effects of diabetes they have a Gold Bond Ultimate Diabetic Dry Skin Relief that, for me, works wonders after a shave and alum treatment. If I had the money I would buy stock in their company. Maybe if they read this they'll send me a few free samples (help the budget out.)

Thanked: 1Looking at bottles for Coral, Lime and Sandalwood, denatured alcohol is the 5th ingredient. I did not wash off the alum, but I have never done that. I immediately noticed that something was amiss when I applied the face food. Anyway, I am glad that they were samples.

If you do a search this product has been discussed at some length in the past and most liked it very much. I used to use it and it never irritated in the least and it left my skin soft. Of course that was a few years ago and maybe they changed it. I had a big bottle of both the lime and coral and after a few years it started to deteriorate and I wound up trashing about 25% that was left over.

Thanked: 62I use the Lime or the Sandlewood as a pre-shave. I sometimes use them as aftershave, but I have come to prefer the Castle Forbes products. The skin food is a very light moisturizer, not sufficient my winter, but I do like them in the summer.
I have had two samples of the Coral and both burned as if some ingredient did not agree with me, although I do not have sensitive skin.
The GFT sample pack is a great value, although I see it is out of stock at the moment.

Gentlemen,
I have used Trumper's Coral Skinfood for a number of years and still find it delightful. Yes, it does contain some alcohol. Here is how I use it: After the shave, a rinse with tepid water is followed by an application of alum. Then, instead of rinsing with cold water, I apply an ice cold towel to close the pores — three applications. The process wipes off much of the alum. Finally an application of Trumper's Coral Skin Food. Of course, I rotate the Coral Skin Food with Castle Forbes lavender balm, Institute Karite balm, Woods of Windsor balm, and a few others. It's good to have the variety.

Thanked: 15Gents:
In my personal opinon I have to say that trumpers in terms of skin foods are terrible products. They say sandalwood smells like sandalwood and for me smells like plastic. I belive they are great in the after shaves lotions.
Leaving trumpers aside I do belive that if you are looking of a a # 1 skin food product the best is Santa Maria Novela (emulsione analolica) It is expensive but that product will last years and years. Try that one and you will see that that's is a real nice upgrade.
thanks'

Aveeno after shave balm is much better (and I have both). $7 for the tube. I like the fact it is scentless and thus wont interfere with the final scent of your choice.

Thanked: 60For me the Alum blocks any moisturiser going into the skin. I noticed this a while ago especially with Proraso sensitive skin balm. I now wash off the Alum after 30 seconds with cold water, then apply moisturiser / balm to a slightly wet face. The Alum for me is defiantly worth applying and washing off as I get less irritation then without using it.
I find Trumpers Lime to work best this way for me. I think its an expensive product and lacks in the moisturiser dept, so my favourites remain Nivea balm for sensitive skin and the Proraso Sensitive skin balm. I won't buy Trumpers lime again, however used with my TOBS No. 74 victorian lime cologne it should last a very long while.
I don't particularly have sensitive skin but the sensitive skin balms work well for me,giving my skin the right amount of moisturiser for a comfortable feel. They are also great after a "rough rushed shave" and I even use them before an aftershave splash after a few minutes soak in time.
I love trying products and have a few favourite combinations, for my skin there is the perfect product and routine, but my mind gets bored so I keep buying expensive stuff I don't really need. Funny thing is I find the cheaper products to work better generally. Strange but true for me.

Once in awhile, if I feel my skin is particularly dry, I just use the Proraso pre / post shave balm...does a great job.
Pretty much any skin moisturizer will do the job....
