    Default Beard softening

Searched around on SRP for beard softening advice. Most of what others suggested I tried without a lot of success.

Yesterday I accidentally discovered something: the Village Barber shave balm I put on my face does an excellent job of beard softening.

I can't speak with great experience on this topic like some can however when I did keep some hair around I used my pre-shave oil on it to keep it conditioned.

I tried that as well, but it just made it oily.

I occasionally use argan or shea oil on my beard to condition it

Shaving after a nice hot shower is your best bet but as far as products are concerned I'd recommend Proraso pre/post cream. It's more of a beard softener/skin conditioner than a glide product, which is why so many guys think it doesn't work as a preshave. I've used it before every shave for many years and it works well IMO.

I've seen several of my bearded friends mention this on Facebook, but I haven't tried it myself. It seems like it would work well and smell great!

Have you tried Lucky Tiger Disappearing Aftershave Cream? Smells a little like camphor when first applied but that quickly goes away. Really does a nice job. I have the one will aloe vera gel.

I have found the following regimen to be an excellent preshave:

    1. While in the shower I generously apply some of SWMBO's conditioner to my face and neck, let it sit for a while and rinse it off.

    2. When I get out of the shower and dry off, I apply olive oil directly to my whiskers. Not too much just 6-8 drops drizzled into the palm of my hand and applied like I would an aftershave.

    3. Apply lather directly over the top of the olive oil and fire away.
