Aloe is part of my daily routine, but it can be drying by itself - as sold through normal products. The honorable PortlandJosh made me aware that its usually alcohol that is used to thin and preserve the perishable plant sap. If I use more aloe - my skin is more dry. It DOES have some benefits for irritation, nicks, etc., but moisturizing isn't one of them. I use 1 part liquid lanolin (100% lanolin w/ the waxy esters steamed out), 3 parts Aloe, 2 parts Jergens Shea Butter hand lotion (about twice the price of their other lotions, but Shea is the 2nd listed ingred.). A while back, Costco had a book on cosmetic chemistry and in moisturizing 2nd wasn't even close to lanolin. Results have been impressive.

I get it at Wegman's (they're a chain just in the northeast), but I'd imagine many other regular stores would carry it. The local what I call 'hippie store' (healthy/local type of food and products and a coop ownership) has it too - as far as I understand that's one of the big national 'natural' brands.

I had the Rose and have the Cucumber...liked the Rose until my Mum and her friends came over and stole it...cucumber is great...but yea, the Rose has that unique, "old lady" smell...but it's great stuff...I really like the Thayer's AS with Aloe as well, small bottle, but it packs a lot of burn!!!
