Thanked: 0Toner and moisturizer instead of aftershave
Can I apply some toner and then moisturizer instead of the alum and aftershave? On paulaschoice.com customer service and even some folks on SkincareAddiction(on www.reddit.com) recommend this.

I regularly use Thayer's Toner in place of alum.

I will use alum or Thayer's depending on my mood. I think the alcohol in AS lotions are supposed to be bad for you, but I will still use them. I really do not feel like I need a moisturizer since the creams I use have moisturizing properties. I might apply a balm in the dead of the winter if I feel my skin gets too dry.

Thanked: 0What I meant was if a toner and then a moisturizer won't basically be the same as an alum, and then an aftershave balm. These are the type of toners that i was referring to Facial Toners: Perfect Hydration for Your Skin | Paula's Choice Skincare & Cosmetic.

To me this is YMMV because everyone's skin is somewhat different just like soaps and creams are all different if it works for you then roll With it

Thanked: 1184Alum and aftershaves help prevent infection of cuts and as an astringent to reduce skin irritation. I use witch hazel only and then wear a cologne. Anything greasy or oily on my face drives me nuts and just helps dirt and dust cling to the skin. I did use a bottle of after shave balm but never noticed any big improvement of any kind.
If your tying to get away from the sting give witch hazel a shot. Then add your skin conditioners.Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.

I really don't know much about toners and moisturizes. I read here to learn new and helpful things. In the past all I did was to shave and rub alcohol on the face then maybe some aftershave that the wife gave me. You know you can learn something new every day.

Thanked: 3227You can use anything you want post shave. I don't think it really matters as long as it works for you.

Give the Toner a try and see if you like the results. If you don't experience razor burn or itching after your shave add it to your shaving routine.

i started using Kiehl's awhile back in my rotation. When I get too close their Razor Bump Relief, Repair Gel, and Creme de Corps have worked wonders for me.
