I've recommended Noxema in the past as a pre shave in place of the Proraso because it's the same thing and 5 times cheaper , and the Noxema will cool down a burn better than any thing I've tryed ,, Dave , you like the Argan oil? Is this something your just using at night as a moisturizer?
The oilfield took a toll on my skin, so I fight dry patches on my face , I may have to try it, one of the ones I haven't. Tc

I liked the Proraso pre-shaves, but the scent was just to strong and I felt it interfered with whatever soap I was using.

Obie mentioned the Castle Forbes Unscented Pre-Shave Oil, and that stuff is fantastic, doesn't gum up your brush - and personally, for me anything that gums up my brush get's an immediate "Fail". And most other pre-shave "oils" do that exceptionally well in my opinion, as well as being somewhat lather destroyers.

The CF isn't overly oily, has no smell, and really hydrates your beard wonderfully - it definitely makes for a closer more comfortable shave. I don't use it all the time, but this stuff is the best I've tried, and I've tried lots of them.

Early on I used to use a vitamin e cream as a pre and post shave, the vitamin e is supposed to help skin heal, once I learned better technique I stopped using it.
Now I generally shower, lather, shave, rinse and put on some aftershave.

I tried using preshave oil for a while, (TOBS), but found that it didn't seem to change the shave any. Also, it was hard to wash off of my hands, and there's nothing dumber than having greasy hands and holding a straight razor to your neck. What's left of it still sits in my cabinet, probably always will. As already said, experiment. Maybe it works for you, maybe it doesn't.

I have been using Noxema Classic Moisturizer for the past 8 months. It really keeps my skin hydrated, A jar for $4.69 USD lasts about 6 months.
Tried AOS Preshave oil but did not like it. Good ole Extra Virgin Olive Oil would be a LOT cheaper and do the same thing.

After the Noxema pre-lather rinse, I pre-lather from the bits and pieces mug, rinse and then lather to shave.

Been using, off and on, Argan Oil. It really softens the beard. For me the best way to use is at night before I go to bed. Got it at WallyWorld for less than $5.00 USD.

I like the idea of soft seductive and silky perfection for five clams. Must try. Until then I favor a glop of Noxema rubbed in after a face wash, before lathering.
