Used it for years. A Tablespoon of mineral oil is a 6-8fl oz. of 190 grain alcohol. I use a cheap cylindrical squeeze bottle like a ketchup one. I like the clearer ones.
I can dip the full length of the blade and tang into it.
190 proof Vodka is the cheapest solution. It can hold over its weight in water without depositing any on a blade.
A light wipe with a tissue and you are home free.
Isopropyl and wood alcohol do not hold as much water.

I used that for several years. It was my own invention but I did not consider myself to be the first to come up with it. My ratio was lower, at about 0.5% mineral oil in lab grade isopropanol. Originally I used olive oil until I was reminded that olive oil, as a fat, could become corrosive upon breaking down. Unlike Richard, I did not wipe the blade after the dip. I figured the alcohol would remove the water during evaporation and would leave a layer of oil behind.

Interesting. I'm assuming you use this after wiping the blade post shave?
