You won't believe this post shave process
Greetings to all!
Since I'm new to the art of straight razor shaving, I had to share this with you.....Anyway after I make my 3rd pass, I use a nice cool water compress. Here's the strange part - then I take vicks-vapo-rub, just a dab, and coat and work it into my face. I then use a steamy hot compress for about a minute. When you take the compress off its heavenly and cool! When I was stationed in the Philippines in the 70's this old barber shaved my face with a straight and this was his process. I still use it. Finish off with a nice balm made with witch hazel, glycerin, coconut oil, etc.
Kinda crazy huh? Don't know if its good for your face but sure feels good. Anyone ever been through this process?Semper Fi !

Thanked: 1I'm lazy and a splash of cold water is usually all I do. Gotta try this sometime though

I can't be bothered with hot towels and the like. I imagine I get the same effect when I use a mentholated AS or Balm.

Thanked: 4827I think Vick's is a heavy dose of menthol so it could be just the thing. I am also a bit of a minimalist when it comes to the shave, especially the post shave routine. Sounds like it has some logic to it though.

I don't have all the post shave I started with, but at times if I feel the razor might give a little burn or its hot and humid I will rub in some Noxema and hold my cold towel on my face for a minute and then wipe down and splash some more cold water. The last year or so the cold water takes care of most of my shaves. The Noxema has that type cooling too, and maybe a little less grease on the race afterwards. Tc

I'll give that a go sometime, but admittedly I too am a minimalist when it comes to post shave routines, usually a balm/splash is enough for me.

Thanked: 220I like the idea of that. I'll have to try it as well. Might be a little icier than I'm expecting, but it has the potential to feel pretty good!

Thanked: 1I actually think this might be right up my alley. I always crave super cold stuff, especially in the summer in LA. Normally, I use a frozen AS, and someone suggested putting menthol in it to make it the ultimate cold rush, and that was a couple weeks ago so I can't wait to try this with it when the weather gets warm (as it would be in the Phillipines lol)! Thanks for the tip!
