Thanked: 3Skip aftershave routine?
Hi everybody!
I was just wondering if i might have done something wrong by skipping post shave procedure with all steps ( balms, whitch hazel etc ). I have been a wetshaver for 15 years. Always used a balm of some kind, made my way through many brands and did find a few great ones ( truefitt, crabtree& evelyn). I have suffered a mild shave acne as a result. Once i have switched razor to Feather from safety razor( Merkur 34) i notice that all those problems were gone. I stopped using post shave products after shaving. My face feels ok, no dryness sort of speak. Am i totally wrong by skipping post shave routine guys?!

If it is working for you, then I don't see a problem with your decision. All skins are not made equal.
Most of the time all I use is witch hazel as my base, then I may move to a balm of some sort. But again, skins react differently, so I don't see a right or wrong answer in your question.
If is not broken, don't touch it brother :-)

Thanked: 56If you're not suffering discomfort from the loss, then you're saving some time and money. I stopped using an alum block several months ago because I could see no downside when I stopped, and suspected it could be contributing to irritation, since it stings during application. Whatever works best for your face is ideal, and it could change over time based on razors, the condition and age of your skin, the season, etc.

Not at all, mate. I'm sure many of us don't do anything. After years of alums and balms and what not I now prefer nothing but a splash of water. After a while your skin will release more natural moisture which is almost always better than something from a factory.
I love the smell of shaving cream in the morning!

I apply a splash of ice cold gin just because I like the sensation but, sometimes, an ice cube is all I need.

Like others have said, if that's what is working for you do it. But for me I never skip the post. In fact, recently I changed up a small aspect of it that has made a huge difference. After my last pass, no rinse, I splash on witchazel and rub the alum block over my wet face. I rinse my brush out and then do my final cold water rinse. I splash on my A/s and balm and it's a great feeling.
