I use Witch Hazel after the shave and again later in the day.
In the past I would reapply an AS in the afternoon as a refresher. This tended to dry my skin so i switched to WH. Feels good and the skin likes it. I often put some on before I go to bed.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Wow. Never knew that there was scented witch hazel. I learn more things off this site that cost me money than almost anywhere else

Or you could try one of the Ogallala Bay Rum AS products, which are witch hazel (not alcohol) based.

Thayers alchol free rose witch hazel is awesome. I just use it as an aftershave.
We have no control of what other people do or say to us, but we have control to how we REACT !! GOD BLESS

I do Thayer's original, without alcohol.
I rub it on my face directly after the shave. Even my forehead, as it seems to cut back the "sheen" that I can get during the day. Then some balm if it's cold or a bad shave, then AS.
You could also custom mix some essential oils into the witch hazel to scent it to your tastes...

I like to splash on a generous amount of WH right after the shave and before any rinse. With my face wet from the WH, I apply alum. I let that sit while I rinse my brush. The I rinse with cold water. Don't ask me how I arrived at this sequence but I will say that it really works for me. After the rinse, finish with A/S, balm, or both as you otherwise might. Even if I gave myself a rough shave, this tames any irritation before it gets started.

Plan and simple.........Witch Hazel as an after shave then apply a balm to moisturize my skin.
