Ever since I found a local source for Thaters witch hazel and aloe skin conditioner, I’ve stopped using my Osma block and any kind of aftershave. In winter or on windy days, I will use some organic Shea butter, but that’s it.

I have to admit that I love all the soaps and various scents. I use matching post shave balm and matching beard oil.

I don't buy a soap if I can't get the balm and beard oil.

The Shea butter you use would probably be equally as good for me too and could possibly be better than my soap theme obsession, but I have to say that if I couldn't get all the wonderful and exciting soaps, balms and oils, I would probably lose interest in straight shaving.

Oh, I just reread my post, I may have a new disorder.

I do have Osma alum but I use it mostly when I get pink lather.

I love my alum. I appreciate the astringent properties and the fresh feel. Alum grades my shave alerting me to the areas i may have been a bit too aggressive. The newest alum i've come across is the Omega Alum stick originating out of China. One of the common pet peeves with alum is the slippery nature which can be the demise of a nice large smooth block.................. This alum stick has a handle to prevent dropping and a nice cap for storage making it convenient for travel.
I finish off with a moisturizing after shave balm as we have a very dry climate here in the prairies.

The Crystal Alum I use also comes in a screw-up container and is a potassium alum salt too. I get mine at the local wally world. I totally agree that the screw-up container is far more convenient than a plain block of alum. At home or away it is all I use.

You can also get a product made by or sold by FNX called "Bloodstone". I got it when I got a haul of Aftershave from Turkey. It comes in what looks like a matchbook and each "match" has some product on it. You wet it and it instantly stops the blood. It's really convenient for travel.
