Thanked: 104Finally bought an Allum block
I have been shaving with straights for a few years but never had an allum block. Wow, why didnt you guys tell me how neat that is? It really did a neat job of tightening up my face and making it look really good. I was really missing out on something.

and you'll never need another one. I swear they never seem to show any signs of shrinking in spite of everyday use!

I still use one now and then. After a really fine shave that I think was the perfect shave. After the Alum it shows me where I wasn't as perfect as I thought I was.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I got one that I use for shaving, and another as a natural, underarm deodorant. I can't wear normal deodorant, or antiperspirant, makes me brake out. Very painful, and burns like all get out. Only need the alum, once every other day.
The wife/girlfriend, can use it too..Mike

Thanked: 3224Been using alum after every shave since I started shaving with a straight razor a few years ago. I have to agree that it really helps this sagging old visage. I use the deodorant alum sold at Wally World in the screw up container. No fuss no muss container.

My dad had an alum block that was about the size of a deck of playing cards. I never found that size but I have purchased smaller ones and do use one every once in awhile/mainly if I have some weepers.
When I've donated a razor and such to those wanting to learn I always put in a small alum block.
With that said--'IF' you can't find an alum block, if you have access to a store with a baking/spice isle, you can make your own:

Cool video Roy.
I've been using alum for years after every shave.
From what I can tell it does two things :
Tightens and tones your skin.
Let's you know how refined your shaving technique is.
I remember in the beginning how much it stung and how red it made my face.
I can use it now and virtually get no sting or redness.
