Thanked: 1083There are a few differences, as said an aftershave splash is an astringent that can help with micro abrasions, this will have a subtle scent. An aftershave balm will have the same properties but may also help calm the skin and be more nourishing. An EDT, EDP or cologne will not help condition the skin but will have the strongest, longer lasting scent.
It all comes down to what works for you and what you want to achieve.
If you have sensitive skin I'd use a balm or moisturiser then an EDP of your choice as a splash will dry your skin out, if you have skin like a rhino then a splash will do the job but will not nourish your skin.

EDT: Eau De Toilette
EDP: Eau De Parfum
I'm like Mike. I don't like to smell like perfume. Part of it is probably from being in the service business. When you go into people's homes you have to be careful about scents which might affect people who have allergies or migraines. My wife walks through the department store within 50 yards of the perfume counter and gets a migraine.
I personally use rubbing alcohol or brake parts cleaner.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Brake cleaner
I honed a Gold Dollar last summer, then went into the garage and got my brake cleaner because i wanted to see if it would take the stamp off the blade.
It did a great job, but i wanted to see if the edge was ok still, I had no water in the garage so I did a couple of stroked dry.
OMG, that brake cleaner, i should not have done that.
I didn't cry, if it hadn't stopped stinging i might have though- - Steve

An after-shave splash (ASS) and an after-shave balm (ASB) are the same, but different.
- An ASS is a liquid, and generally astringent -- not quite up to an alum block, but often good enough. Witch hazel is a good ASS.
- An ASB is a lotion, and more for moisturizing -- if your skin is chapped/red after a too-close shave.
Both an ASS and an ASB are applied to one's face and neck; they might be scented, or fragrance-free.
OTOH, an Eau de Toilette (EDT) is a fragrance. On the "strength" scale, an EDT is stronger (more concentrated) than an Eau de Cologne (EDC), but less so than an Eau de Parfum (EDP). All of them should be applied to one's upper chest and/or the sides of one's neck (where it meets the shoulders), but never to one's face; in all cases, be careful to not overspray. You can have everything, and still not have enough.
I'd give it all up, for just a little more.

I know Steve knows I'm joking but for those of you not quite as acquainted with the nuances of my sick and twisted sense of humor, the mention of brake parts cleaner as an aftershave was an attempt at humor.
*Disclaimer:* please do not consider this as an endorsement and actually use brake parts cleaner as an aftershave.

Thanks Mark,
I went with splash and EDT, I have the balm for a lot of my soaps and fancied trying something different.
I have skin that you could shave with a broken bottle so I'm not too worried how kind the stuff is.
Ha lucky i have rhino hide on my face, the way I hone i need to hold the razor in both hands to shave- - Steve
